Triggering (SI) - olfactory hallucination?

I got the smell again. I get this weird smell that's a hallucination that i don't get. sometimes it makes me way manic but i always crash. and i got it two days ago too! i don't usually get it often... and that time i got really really paranoid too. i'm ok, but i know it can go anywhere. make me wanna cut. that's what it used to do. sometimes i love this smell. sometimes i hate it. idk...

and here's the weird thing.. it's not always but was today i know set off by eating salty crackers/chips. that doesn't always set it off and doesn't always cause it. but a great majority of the time, i have noticed it comes after eating salty crackers/chips and i even kinda remember the act of eating it when the smell comes. doctors don't know what it is and don't really care to find out. i was told to ignore it. yeah right. i've never found anyone that has the same thing to where they describe it and it sounds like what i get. i don't even know what to do about it?

Could it be the salt or something in the crackers that you are smelling is bringing back a memory of something? Quite often just smells can bring back memories and perhaps your brain is confusing the smell with the memory and the emotion it is bringing up?

Sorry, I don't really know what you can do about it. I don't think you can make the smell go away, but you can try to distract yourself or use relaxion techniques when you are feeling paranoid or about to crash.
