Adult - Vibrating radiator

Ok I know it sounds funny, but my radiator keeps randomly making this really loud vibrating noise. It stops if I alter the setting the radiator is on at, but will then return at some point afterwards, like sometimes 5-10 minutes, sometimes an hour.

It's really making me nervous and uptight as I get such a shock every time it starts again. So I wondered if anyone who's good at DIY and other such practical things has any sound advice as to how to stop it making the noise permanently?

Failing that I shall just turn the damn thing off and risk freezing to death overnight! (I'm not melodramatic at all, honest)

Have you checked anything that might be loose on it - nuts, bolts, screws, etc?
Something similar happened to one of my radiators and I'm trying to remember what it was but it won't come back. If it does I'll share.
Good luck with it anyway.

Does it sound like a banging noise? If so it could be water hammer and bleeding them could help. (In fact bleeding them should help whether it's the cause of the problem or not) Beyond that, check it's properly fixed to the wall and the pipes are secure and I cant think of anythign else.

I've just moved house and the radiators keep making noises like someone tapping one the window and I keep sh*tting my pants!

Psssht Andy, lower the tone why don't you!:P

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I shall bleed them tomorrow.
I knew there was probably a simple explanation. It's not the fact that they make a noise that worries me, just the fact I'm so damn neurotic I nearly have a heart attack everytime it goes off!

That's uncool. Stick everything you can on top of it to muffle the sound? :P
[And then obviously get it checked and yada...]

Mine just makes a really high pitched drone quite often, it's annoying.

I can't help but doing it. I know we're talking radiator problems but I keep seeing "vibrator" and that's it. I'm becoming a bit worried.

Mine does the same, my pipes also do it , I thought it was mice or next door or something I got really nervous too. Sometimes it does it when its cold just because it's chilly and the pipes make noises when being heated.

Usually draining the system can make the heat go through again, but its an annoying job. Are you in a rented house, you could see if the landlord will have a little look

Orginally I read this as radiating vibrator :S
