Minimum/Maximum Posts on Forums?

Recently i've seen on some forums quite a lot of posts by specific members on a board, for instance, they'll be 4-5 posts by the same person on the same topic on the first page on the Serious Board.

Is there a minimum/maximum amount someone can post on one board on the same topic??

It just seems slightly unfair to me on other members who are also wanting to recieve support, but there posts get pushed off the first page because another user is posting numerous times on the same topic.
Wouldn't it make sense to carry on one thread? I do know that people follow the majority of threads past the first page or two, as most people do write follow ups on threads (saves making a new post everytime).

Anyway. Just an enquiry really.
Cheers.

There's not a limit, no.

Obviously it's encouraged that people try not to post say 3 different threads in one board in a short space of time, and keep it to one thread, but you can't really enforce that.

If you see a thread that's sliding off due to this, then you can always post a short reply which would not only help the user but bump the thread. :)

That's a good idea, Rach.
It can be really difficult when a member has a lot of threads on one forum, but at the same time, it's likely they are either really needing support, or new and not sure that they should update the same post, or don't want to.

But as Rach as said, if threads that are needing replies and are falling off the page, you could bump them up with a reply. That way, older threads of the multiple-thread-poster will fall lower leaving the most recent for support, too, so that everyone gets a chance at some decent supportive replies.

However for future reference for people posting for support, where possible updating a thread you may already have on the first page is a good idea if you can do it, then all your supportive replies can be kept in one place for you to look at & take advice from.

I'm not on regularly enough to be bumping everyones posts up, nor am i in the supporting mood at the moment - and i can't stand replying to threads unless i feel i have something useful to say (i.e. I don't like just saying "hugs" or "feel better soon" - i usually like to give advice/full on support when i can).

Obviously they're needing support, but then so are the majority of RYL, and if one user is posting about the same thing over and over, it makes people less likely to reply to all there posts because they've already replied to one, and don't feel that they have anything more to add, so really it would be more beneficial for that user to add on to there first existing thread.

I don't post for support on here anymore really, but i do have friends who post on occasion, and i find it upsetting when they have 1 or 2 replies, but another user who is flooding the page saying the same is pushing there thread off the page which makes them unable to recieve any other replies.

I'm sure quite a few members just look at the first 5-8 posts, rather than down the bottom of the page.

Maybe that's something the Community Team could look into Aimee? Maybe some CT members who are feeling like they could give support could "bump" these other threads up? I think it was mentioned a few times when i was in CT?

Anyway. Cheers for the replies.

Maybe it is. Also, if you want to contact the moderators they may consider talking to the member about more effective ways to get support, such as, updating one thread where appropriate.

Other than that, though, there isn't much more we can do. Bringing in a rule would just be ludicrous, all we can do is give friendly suggestions as how to get/give support.

I have reported it but never got a reply, so i didn't know whether the person i reported to was rolling there eyes at me for bringing it up, or, whether it was being sorted.
Sort of reluctant to bring anything to moderators attention these days.

Wouldn't want a rule against it, although i'd say past 5 posts on the first page is quite ridiculous.
Think it should be brought up a bit more though, as you say, possibly in a friendly way.

IMO bumping threads isn't a CT issue, if anything it would be something the Supporters would keep and eye out for, and I think they already do keep and eye out for threads that are low on replies.

The CT is working on some articles that explain how to get the best support on RYL, I think making multiple threads is one of the issues addressed.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
