Message from Ezine!
The eZine has taken on a whole crew of new staff, and the long awaited combined November and December issue is packed full of features for the holiday season. Our theme is Settling In and Belonging, in it's widest possible aspect. The working theme so far for January's issue is New Directions.
The eZine staff all wish you a warm and peaceful holiday season, in which you experience some real joy.

Message from the First Aid Team
Dear All,

Due to the holiday season, there may be a decrease in the replies from the First Aid Advisor within the first aid forum. Users may still post, but please be aware that if in doubt, it is always safest to seek medical help rather than waiting for a reply from an advisor.

It is also a good idea to make sure all your first aid kits are fully stocked for the holiday season, as store-opening times may be limited and we would hate for someone to be stuck.
A basic first aid kit should include the following items;
*Sterile Non stick gauze
*Anti bacterial cream
*ACE wrap/ Tubi-Grip
*bandages
*plasters
*Medical tape
Steri-strips may also be beneficial

Please also be aware that the basic first aid articles are now up on the main site, under the advice tab if you need further details.

The First Aid team would like to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Quick guide to the most common first aid needs.

Additional first aid sources can be found in this thread: Useful Links & Phone Numbers
UK users can also ring NHS Direct for confidential advice.

Bleeding

You should apply firm pressure using a non-stick gauze, directly to the wound as soon as you can. Do not lift the gauze off until 15 minutes. If the wound bleeds through, put another one on top and continue to press down.

If after 15 minutes, the bleeding has not stopped (small amount of spotting is ok) then you are unlikely to be able to treat the wound at home an so you should seek medical help immediately.

Dressing a wound

To dress a wound, you should apply a thick layer of antibacterial cream to a non-stick gauze. Place this over the wound and use a bandage such as tubi grip/ACE wrap to hold it all in place. Change the dressing regularly applying more cream each time.

Infection

If you have any signs of an infection in a wound, then it is likely to need treatment from a medical professional. Antibiotics may need to be prescribed.
The common signs of an infection in a wound are as follows;
*Heat around the wound
*Green discharge
*Smell
*Inflammation around the wound
*Some people may also show the symptoms of a cold and/or a fever.
NB: You must seek medical attention if you exhibit these.

Fundraising - the annual summary & what's to come.
Well, here we are at the end of 2008. How quickly has it gone by? I swear it was only yesterday that I was being dragged around Hyde Park on my bum in the first RYL organised fundraising event - the sponsored three legged race. Once again, a massive thank you to everyone that took part.

For more pictures, have a look at this thread (Image heavy + scars) The RYL three legged race (30/08/08) embarassing pictures thread!

We've also had a few other fundraising things this year, in the form of eBay auctions, where two lucky members won the bidding for a replica Harley-Bear. Well done guys :)

So, what can you expect from fundraising in 2009??
Well, definatly another sponsored making-prats-out-of-ourselves event. And a lot more eBay auctions. I'm also hoping to push Harley out of a plane at some point, so watch this space! 2009 also means RYL is ten years old; which has got to be an excuse for a party if there ever was one!

If you want to help RYL out by doing a fundraising event, then go for it! If you need ideas or help of any kind, just drop me a PM.
Happy New Year [for 9? day's time!].
Chelsea

A message From the Community Team
:

Three months ago The Community Team (CT) was born. Everyone that uses RYL had the opportunity to join; from lurkers right through to staff! A team that would work together so we can help give something back to RYL and help make a difference to the site we all love and care for. Throughout the past few months the CT members have worked hard together to get many tasks completed. Some of the things we do go un-seen. However there is also a lot more that does show for the dedicated time we put into contributing towards the CT and RYL matters. Such as the advice our variety of members have been able to collate for getting through Christmas, improving RYL’s guide & main site, sorting through and adding to stickies as well as writing articles. These are only a few of the things that have gone under way since the birth of the team. To add to this next year, we have so much more planned! With exciting new things in addition to RYL and its members being discussed and planned already, we are quite confident to say you will have plenty to look forward to next year. From The Community Team, we hope you have a merry Christmas and a brilliant new year.

Yeah *cough* I'm not spamming ryl because my parents have actually had to set their 16 year old a get up at 7 rule to stop her leaping on the bed and dragging them up to go open presents earlier!

With demons dancing off mirror images reflecting all that you wanted.
So far from perfect, onward we will strive.
Take it for what it's worth, this truth that you've realized.
You're not who you thought you were, it's time to see the other side of what you have become.

Haha :)
I'm not sure whether that was even intentional or not! Either way, it worked :P

Happy Christmas everybody! I woke my boyfriend up at seven, then allowed him to go back to sleep for an hour, 'cause he wasn't with it at all.

But yes, Happy Christmas :)
