Antivirus software

Sorry, I know there are a million threads like this but none seem to answer my specific questions. I have the free version of AVG and was wondering if that will completely protect my computer? On my old laptop I managed to get some sort of virus because the free version of AVG doesn't offer real time protection. It did get rid of the virus though. I bought Kaspersky 2009 but when I uninstalled AVG and tried to insall Kaspersky it kept telling me that AVG was still installed. So I was thinking about upgrading to one of the paid versions of AVG but I don't know.

Anyone have an opinion? Thanks.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

Don't try to calm the storm, calm yourself, the storm will pass.

You didn't come this far just to come this far.

Well, if you're willing to buy one, BitDefender and McAfee are really good, from my experience. None of them have let a virus in and have quarentined and then let me delete the ones I needed to. They both offer real time protection.

Um, I have no idea about AVG as I've never used it, um. Sorry, pointless post, but I hope you get something sorted (:

Hmmm, stupid question, but are you sure you uninstalled AVG correctly?

I wouldn't get McAfee, but Kaspersky is good. Make sure you have some spyware and malware protection too.

McAffee has always worked for me, but I admit that it isn't the BEST anti-virus out there....

It soundsl ike you have a registery problem.... look on google for how to clear the AVG registry key and then try to install Kapersky...

AVG is adequate, but it probably wouldn't protect you from an advanced trojan that you already have downloaded....

Never, ever, EVER use Norton

EVER

I agree with Mikey.

Though sometimes reinstalling to uninstall can help, if it's a case that the updates from overtime are what is registering as still there after the program been removed. (:
