Well basically the idea is to stick the number of posts people make at the bottom of there name and give them stars or suttin.
Like say you star of with one red star
then maybe after say 100 posts it changes to 2 orange stars
then after 1000 maybe changes again
ect...
I think its a good idea because its on this other site i go on. Its not a self harm site or anything just genreal advice www.mykindaplace.com ?
Like an unspoken competition?
Not one where you win a prize, but people looking at each others post count and trying to make theirs higher than other people as a show of 'status'.
An "I'm better than you as I have 50 more posts than you" sort of thing.
What do you think a post count on peoples posts would achieve?
^^^ What Jane said. We used to have our post counts shown under our avatars a long time ago on V2, but it was removed because it was felt that we should be focusing on the quality of our posts and not how many times we have posted. Plus people worried it divided the membership between people with a lot of posts and people without many.
Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
I've been on other websites who do that and i felt that i wasn't as good as the other people who had more stars so i felt like i couldn't post as much cos people wouldn't listen to me as i only had one grey star whereas aanother person giving advice had five orange stars.
I think it makes a new member feel even more akward than they already do.
Just my thoughts.
x
'Cause I'll always remember you the same.
Oh eyes like wild flowers within demons of change ♥
^^^^ Which is why posts in F&D no longer count towards your total post count.

However, these sorts of things really only work on sites NOT like RYL :) RYL is a funny one.
Most websites want more and more people, as many as possible, and for those people to spend as much time as possible there, for ever. RYL works the other way around - we want you to leave! We love everyone here so much that we know that leaving RYL means good things, and so getting people to that point is our prime concern.
So we do whatever we can to make sure we dont ad to the addiction factor of RYL - and that includes schemes designed to instill pride and a sense of achievement in posting lots on RYL.
I have looked many times at various schemes, including ones where various actions on the forums earn members points which they can then spend on jazzing up their avatar - and they all lead back to the same thing... is it fair to encourage someone to stay here?
RYL is home to many people for many horus a day, it is addictive enough to have a place of quiet and peace and support rather than the alternative of daily life. So IMHO we don't need, or more specifically want to start rewarding people for staying longer.
So yeah, if RYL was any other site I would say great but due to us working a bit differently to nomal websites it doesnt work quite as well!
