I am currently:
People reading rants.

I know this has been said many times before, but I get the feeling some others would be of the opinion that this could be useful.

Firstly, I am aware that RYL is on the internet, and therefore all information I publish on here is free to be seen by those on the site. I have no objection to this. What I do have an objection to, however, is people not on the site being able to read my R&V thread. I know of friends/family members that know I have an account on here for the primary reason to look at what I've been writing, and who regularly read things I've written on there as if they're 'checking up' on me (though I suspect it's probably just spying). Whilst I know that non-members cannot see some of the forums, there's nothing stopping these people making accounts and therefore accessing all parts of the forums.

Yes, I know I could write stuff in a journal and keep it private, but I don't know about anyone else, but I use the R&V forum to get things out, and know that someone, somewhere is reading them and cares. What's great about RYL is that although I tend to lurk most of the time because I'm pretty much useless, people on here are people that understand and are generally non-judgemental.

I'm trying not to be picky and I'm in no way criticising RYL at all, because it's helped me so very much, especially the R&V board. However, I do feel as though it's very easy for my privacy to be breached and it's making me feel increasingly uncomfortable as I become aware of people in the 'real world' reading things they might not fully understand and therefore jump to conclusions about.

In an attempt to stop rambling, I was just wondering if anyone else had any other thoughts about this? Maybe I'm the only one, in which case I'll shut up, but it's an issue that I'm having so yeah.

I had a quick idea, in that maybe a restriction could be put in place that allowed only members with a certain amount of posts (maybe 5 or something small like that) to be able to view this? It would ensure that people reading it aren't just people prying, whilst still being there as a means of support for those that need it.

Sorry to bother, just something I was thinking about.

Take care,

Amy

AMY.

You're not as messed up as you think you are,

Your self-absorption makes you messier.
Just settle down and you could feel a whole lot better,
Deep down, you're just like everybody else.

I'd agree with the restriction you suggested - possibly even making it 10 post minimum.

For those lives that tear at the seams
We know… we’re not what we’ve seen

There ain’t no other step than one foot
Right in front of the other

If you don't want anyone to see or anything you could make a journal and put it on private straight away so no one else can read it? That's what I did :)

I like the 10 post idea if i'm honest.

You gotta hope more,

Tbh, I just have a private journal.
Only one person from this site can read it, and it makes me feel better.
Though, probably for completely opposite reasons to you, lol, I hate people reading my rants so..I like to keep it completely private.

Um.
That's all.
sorry, was completely pointless.

I definately know that there's a restriction of posts to get into Events/Meets forum, so maybe Harley could do the same for R/V.

Moved on. Take care.

You can only see the Rants/Vents board if you're a member of RYL, so at least guests can't read it.

I actually really like the minimum post requirement, and I've seen it implemented on quite a few forums with great success. I wonder if Community Team shouldn't look over this and see how plausible it would be.

Yeah, I guess I like the idea that people are reading what I've got to say because they sort of care if you get me. Maybe it's attention seeking, maybe not. But there we go.

I didn't know the events forum had a post thingy... I think it might give some peace of mind to those that get paranoid if this was put on the R&V.

I really agree with the whole restriction on R&V.
I think it's a really good idea.

=)

But if i still believe you love me, maybe i'll survive.
So i tell myself you're coming home, like you've done a million times.
& if it's alright, i'll still be loving you.
'cause i can't break it to my heart.

No, I understand what you mean and it's not attention seeking, it's just sometimes I'm a very private person and such.
*walking contradiction*

I get waht you mean.
cuz, it doesn't stop someone just signing up and being like OOOOOH RANTING AND VENTING.

As it is now, the R&V forum can only be seen by registered users. I don't think it needs to have any additional restrictions on it, as the Journals can be made completely private.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

I agree. I had a situation a few months ago when my brother did this.
And, I think a post count restriction would be great, as I know in that situation, he never posted despite having the account for a few months. At least people would be forced to do something to get the privilege of reading R&V

On a side not, I totally didn't know R&V was members only, and was always annoyed and wary cause I thought it wasn't! Score!

i was gonna type this :P sooo

Yeah I know it can only be seen by registered members, but there's nothing stopping someone quickly making an account to be able to see it. So technically, what's the difference? If people want to pry, they will inevitably just create an account.
