A incident that made me realize how much I miss the old days...
Hello,
Several years ago, back before things got out of control I used to work as a security guard. I enjoyed it alot. I mean there was some places I didn't care to work at, but there was some I liked very much. The ones I liked the most were ones I could make a difference, a impact in people's lives in some way. I got to do that at the assisted living home I worked at.
One lady I remember, she had paged me. I came up and she was very upset. It seems she thought someone had broken into her apartment and had stolen her dresses. I asked her where she thought this person might have gotten in. She took me over to her closet and showed me a small vent that was about 5 inches wide and 2 inches tall. Clearly not large enough to crawl through. But she kept insisting someone was coming through this vent to steal her dresses. What I did to make her feel safe was I took her to the electrical room that the vent lead to just outside her apartment. I opened it and showed her no one was currently in there. Then I told her while I was on duty I would make a special patrol to check on her apartment every half hour (which I did anyway, but I said to make her feel safe). She thanked me and went calmly into her place and shut the door. That's the kind of impact I got into security to make. To be able to make someone feel safe, cared about. That I am not there for a pay check.
Anyway, the point of the post. Tonight I was on my late night walk to the payphone to talk to the holine as I frequently do and I heard a crack of what I thought at first was a glass bottle. Then another crack and this time what I knew was a window breaking. Then I saw a male about 30 years old dressed in black clothing with a crowbar in his hand run from a pizza place. I looked at the window and knew exactly what he was doing, I chased him. He ran behind a supermarket and I lost track of him which really only pissed me off. I went ahead and called PD and they checked out the pizza place. Apparently he was only able to break one layer of the double layer window, which was good. But the cops were unable to find him either.
What I realized from the incident was how much I really miss being in security. And how much I would like to get a handle on the PTSD and depression so I can get back into the field. Even if it's only part time. I would very much like to enjoy the feeling of satisfaction I felt at the end of the shift when I was working at the assisted living home, or a similar location. So yea, that was my excitement for the day.
