I have just started this when I was in the hospital.
I am on 1mg as when they upped it to 2mg I was barely functioning, I was so tired and eyes sight was all blurred from being tired and I was also really restless, fidgeting, moving legs constantly etc.
So the Dr reduced it back down to 1mg, for now.
What are peoples experiances with this drug?
Is it a weight gaining drug? As the consultant put me on this as I refused quietapine for the weight gain reasons. He said Risperidone was less likely too. I know each person is differant though but in general?....
Do the over tiredness wear off quickly? Just so I know for when it is increased next time.

i'm tired of chasing my dreams. i'm just gonna ask where they're going, and hook up with them later.
My experiences with it is that I did put on a bit of weight. However the tiredness was bad. I was on 4mg. I also had hormonal problems that that medication caused which led me to change to Amisulpride. I didn't like the Risperidone. If you didn't then perhaps you could try something else?
PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
Risperidone made my vision blurry too. I was on 4mg at one point when I was manic. They switched me to quetiapine and it's been much better. I'm not sure about the weight-gain as I've only ever been on anti-psychotics in combination with other meds and my weight fluctuates due to my an eating disorder.
I got quite tired from it as well, but after taking it for a few month it wore off and I could function pretty normal. Gaining weight was a factor, but it wasn't that bad. My other problem were the extrampyramidal side effects.
Posturalhypotension is also bad.
I'm not sure what other med they would try. I refuse Quietpine and Olanzepine so I'm not sure what they would suggest.
I didn't take it yesterday for the fear of being a zombie all day today. Not the best option to just not take it but I just couldn't handle a meesed up day again.

I'm on 4mg a day, when I was first on it at 1mg a day I was okay, then when they upped it to 2mg I was completely zombiefied. In the end they increased it really slowly so I could get used to it. At the start I was really tired but it wore off. I still get blurred vision though. I'm not sure about the weight gain but in my case it definitely isn't impossible to lose weight on it, probably because of my ED. Good luck with it. x
I find it really helps with the paranoia i have, and for the first 2 weeks it did make me a bit zombiefied but that went away, just stick with it. It also makes my bp a bit on the low side which means sometimes i have to be careful i dont faint, but thats the only side effect for me. It has increased my appetite quite a bit, but i have eating issues so my weight has only gone up slightly.

I can understand not wanting olanzapine as it is notorious for weight gain. I tried it and hated it. However, quetiapine is one of the more weight-neutral atypical anti-psychotics. For me, it was a good move, I haven't got any side-effects and it helps me sleep. Is it worth trying? You can always come off it.
I was on 4mg a few years ago, but had to stop taking it becuase it increased my prolactin levels (hormones that you're supposed to produce when you're pregnant and cause things like producing breast milk!) which wasn't nice at all. I wasn't on it very long in the end. I do remember it did make me really tired tho.

i was on 3mg a day, the tieredness wore off quite quickly but im one who doesnt sleep much so i loved the effects of the sleepyness, it made me gain a lot of weight which is why decided to change meds....

the tiredness WILL wear off! :D
i was on risperdal for a month, but it made me eat EVERYTHING, it was really damaging to my eating disorders and jump started my bulimia, so i went off and switched to seroquel.
