Ignoring people and threads

I have found myself leaning - perhaps somewhat heavily, as of late - on the ignore feature. Mainly for threads but yes, for a member or two, as well. I'm sorry to say this, but I find it somewhat...inefficient, to be completely honest.

Perhaps I'm too picky for my own good, but I would have thought that the ignore feature would have made selected people/threads invisible, and finding that such is not the case I personally find as triggering as the ignored content.

Specifically:

-Ignoring members. Seeing that they are online in the members list. Knowing that someone whom I do not particularly wish to see makes me feel on edge. Seeing them in the forums, with a message saying '[username] is on your ignore list' with an option to view the post anyway is rather triggering, as I find it tempting to look anway, and ultimately take the risk of stumbling across something that I end up wishing I had to read [and I can just imagine people here saying 'exercise some self control, if that's the case' - it might sound like a cheap excuse, but I have tried. Trust me here.]

-Ignoring threads. I started off blocking just one particular thread that I felt was detrimental to my own well being, and then saw the message 'the last post in this forum is in a thread you are ignoring.' It was as triggering as seeing the blocked thread's title, as it drew so much attention to what I was trying to avoid. In the end, I had to ignore several other threads that were not triggering, just so I could not fully know which thread was being ignored when I next read that message [I hope that makes sense].

As it happened, the next time I saw that, I thought 'oh God, I bet that post is in [ignored thread]' and could not shake the thought. So blocking extra threads really made very little difference.

Is there not anything that could perhaps be done to help with this? At the moment, I'm afraid to say that I don't feel as safe on RYL as I potentially could.

I've been doing a bit a digging around and it appears that is how the features are built into the program that is used to run the forums.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,

And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

Hm, so what you mean is, there is not anything that can be done to make the ignore function more...useful?

I've got pretty much the same problem, but the person I've ignored is because I really don't like them, not because they trigger me. Is it possible for you to avoid whatever forum that particlar thread is in? I know it's hard as sometimes people only go into one or two forums, but use it as an excuse to "explore" RYL.

Unfortunately, while it started off as one or two threads that triggered me, it has rather...escalated. I have a few food/eating related issues, and I just don't like seeing pictures/lists of food, and the like.

So as well as threads in R&V, there are also the food related threads in places like Veterans' General, General Chat and Fun and Distractions, there are ones that I've seen along the lines of 'what have you eaten for breakfast/lunch/dinner?' which I find...unsettling.

So that's rather a lot of the forum to have to ignore, and in a brilliant feat of intelligence, whatever I was going to tack on the end of this sentence has completely left my mind.

What I mean is that it doesn't appear to be something Harley can do anything about, its an issue that would have to be addressed by the people who write the software we use for the forums.

AS a side note, people shouldn't be posting things like any numbers relating to eating/weight/exercise, nor should they be posting food lists, in line with the ED board trial guidlines, so if you do see something like that, please do report it :)

I've not seen anything in relation to weight or exercise, just the aforementioned 'what are you eating for [meal]' threads. To be honest, I never thought upon whether they could be affected by the new ED forum rules.
