I was put on 20mg Citalopram 2 months ago for 6 weeks, the GP upped my dose to 40mg 2 weeks ago, but I don't feel any better at all if anything i might be worse, how long can I leave it before I can go back and they can do something? It just feels like i may as well stop tbh because everything takes so long, I'm getting so fed up with it all
I'd say 2 weeks was an adequate time to see if a dosage increase was working. Finding the right med can often take a long time, and whilst it is frustrating, thing's can't really happen any faster as most med's can take up to a month to have any effect. Just hang in there and you will find one that suits you. Also don't just stop taking them before you see your doctor, he/she will probably want you to taper your dose rather than stop cold turkey to prevent you from going through withdrawal.

thank you, i wasn't sure how long i shoudl leave it before i went back i know things are goign to take a while its just such a long time, thanks again xx
its always wise to go back to your dr if you feel things arent going well/getting worse
i hope you find something that does work soon
i understand how frustrating it can get though, iv been on citalopram for 3 months and its doing nothing. unfortunately these things just take time, though i know that doesnt stop the frustration
xxxx
Hmmm I know that frustration only too well!!
I was on citalopram for about 7/8 months in total- I started on it back in May and only came off it for good yesterday.
You can be increased up to 60mg for citalopram. I'd stick with it for a couple of weeks if I were you, unless you feel really unsafe (then you should get to your GP/A&E Department).
In my experience, doctors always wait more than 6-8 weeks before they increase dosage, just to be sure the lower one isn't working.

you should let your gp know how your feeling and see what they say.

" my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trials and suffering. When you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you" you were carried out of are lifes into the next and when its my time to leave this life I know i will be carried into the next life with you.

I increased to 40mg from 30mg about 10 days ago and I feel worse too. I'm hoping it gets worse before it gets better! That said, I think you should probably see your dr and let them know.
i felt worse on citalopram and went back to my GP...he said he wouldnt change them untill i had been on them for three months as it takes that long to get in your system and start working!
all i can say is thank god for my psychiatrist....first visit i told him about how i was feeling worse on citalopram and he changed me straight away to mirtazapine. which i have been on for 3 weeks...with a dosage increase aswell during that time.
all i can suggest is keep going back to your GP..argue with them....dont take no for an answer as it is not good to feel worse on something that is supposed to help you as my GP found out.
xx
i still find each day too short for all the thoughts i want to think, all the walks i want to take, all the book i want to readand all the friends i want to see. john burroughs
leedschick is my drinking buddy and my best friend <3
Yeah I was on Citalopram for 3 weeks, and it increased my self-harm, whcih managed to get me into psych hospital. I should have expected it to happen as it's in the same class as Fluoxetine..and that made me more impulsive.
But yeah be honest with whoever you see. And say you're getting worse. :D
Now i'm on mirtazipine.. which is combined anti-d and sleepign tablet. Killed my anxiety.. but still have thoughts.. but not as extreme.. and yeah very sedative.

Is citalopram the first A/D you've tried? It was my first and it did nothing so it could just be that you need to change it and see what happens. It can sometimes take a little while to find the one that is right for you. Your GP should be able to advise what to do.
Personally I would say that 2 months with no changes at all is enough to consider a change in medication.
I don't want to spend the rest of my days
Running around, chasing my shadow
So please don't let this chance slip away
If I waste it this time
I won't be here tomorrow
Citalopram & sertraline hasn't done anything 4 me & ive been on both at max strength a day over last 2 years, been on the latter last 6months, still nothing??
thank you all, the gp has changed me to Fluoxetine so we will see how that goes, its the first time ive actually been to see anyone about any of my problems and the first timne ive been on meds like this and the fact he's just put me on prozac! well not sure if i want to laugh or cry at that one!
