To be honest, I don't think RYL's the place.
There are plenty of religious forums around, for all sorts of purposes and religions, and we do have a Christian SI thread lurking around RYL too.

Also, there would be a very strong likelihood that this rule would be broken:

Quote:
Please do not make comments or post images that overly push any religious belief (or lack thereof) onto any other members, or make any religious comments that could be offensive to others. It is not fair to judge and discredit others' beliefs - whatever they may be. If you see a religious comment and disagree, please just turn away and refrain from responding.

For example : "X will save you from self-harm!", "Your God sucks", "how can you believe all that? I don't"

I see it in your eyes
You'll be alright

.

I agree with Rachel. RYL can't be everything to everyone. We have the christian SIers thread around, as a general support thread.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

I think that would negate what RYL stands for. i.e. being a place where all are accepted. A place where we can be together and not feel so alone. Many people here aren't religious at all and having a board like that, i fear, would make those people feel unwelcome. RYL is gender, age, race, religion non-specific and it should stay that way.

The main purpose of RYL is to help support people who self harm. This means everyone whatever there religion is or is not as the case may be. I think making a seperate forum for religion would not at all benifit RYL as it would not used very much.
People can write threads about SI and religion in SID and people have done and it doesn't take someone religious to give them a good reply back.
There is already a Christian SIers Thread in SID and personally i think thats as far as i think it needs to go. Just with that thread people feel they can't post there if they are not christian so it is pretty divisive.
And aswell just because your a christian does not mean you believe the same things about God as another christian, and thats where people start breaking rules.

Plus for it to be fair there would have to be a subsection for each and every religion.

Your understanding is admirable. I know it can be rough when people don't agree with a suggestion you have made, but you are being amazingly accepting. I do, really, admire that. Please don't hesitate to make suggestions in the future. I love it when people get involved and suggest things, even if they don't always come to fruition, it's still good for RYL.

Totally agree. x

The Mole was bewitched, entranced, fascinated. By the side of the river he trotted as one trots, when very small, by the side of a man who holds one spell-bound by exciting stories; and when tired at last, he sat on the bank, while the river still chattered on to him, a babbling procession of the best stories in the world, sent from the heart of the earth to be told at last to the insatiable sea.
Wind in the Willows.

Yeah, isn't a rough when someone comes up with what is a perfectly valid suggestion or idea and, because of a few things RYL has learnt over time that they might not have thought of, they have their idea quashed pretty quickly. It's sad and I hope it never puts people off suggesting things.

RYL's dream has always been to create a place where only one thing mattered and only one thing was shared - the desperate hatred and struggle of self harm and (hopefully) the desire to overcome it, even if you don't have a clue how.

RYL has had many, many people suggest we are more open in our allowance of discussions such as politics and religion. I, personally have never wanted RYL to become a one-stop solution to every one of lifes lessons and problems as I think it would dilute what we are here to do.

But in the experience of me and many staff through the years on RYL, it has become clear that 90% of the time, politics, religion and other potentially contentous issues only serve to push people apart and that makes supporting each other difficult.

While religion plays a big part in the recovery of many people, I dont think it should be pushed as a general recovery tool - more than anything because maintaining a forum for ALL religions wouldnt really work. A Christian forum yes, or a Muslim or Jewish forum (or all of them) perhaps - but to try to mix it up and create a sub section of the community who were encouraged to use any religion they wished for the purposes of recovery would be near impossible to maintain - and I feel would only cause division.

But I do want to make clear that I love it when we do see threads about issues, politics and religion that do not get out of hand, and RYL far from shuns those who have faith. It's just that with members from many, many different countries and faiths in the community it is a very difficult subject to make work :)

Thanks so much for the suggestion though - I hope you get to discuss what you want anyway and find people :)
