A room where?

On the forums, there is the Veterans Corner which is for the older (18+) members of RYL. A Veteran's Chat Room was trailed on v.2 & it didn't work.

I presume you are talking about in Chat then as apposed to the Forums? There is a forum for the "older" people - I don't really mean old, but a place where people can discuss other life concerns.

There used to be a Vets chat room - but it didn't really work and wasn't used. For what purpose to you feel you need another room and why the age of 30 >.<

There's Veteran's Corner where member's who are older tend to post.

Just a question, why would a room have to be for 30 and over only? Member's on here vary very much in their maturity, with some younger members having understanding and maturity beyond their years and some older member's who some would see as immature.

I think imposing an arbitrary age restriction would damage RYL's sense of community, the great thing about RYL is that everyone is welcome to post where they feel they fit in. It would worry me that people may feel excluded were such a room to be created.

<33 I completely agree. But yes, any reason you ask? And do you mean chat or the forums? (:

Yesh! Also... it would be totally impossible to make it stick :P

Why for over 30's though, if you don't mind me asking?

If you really wish to do that then why don't you grab each others msn addresses or something?

It could never be enforced just for over 30's and I think that it would be very underused.

Free spirit, you haven't upset everyone. :)

Have a read of the thread called 'forum request' on this board. (http://www.recoveryourlife.com/forum...ad.php?t=75545) and especially the posts towards the end that explains how new suggestions are always welcome even if they're not put into place.

Lots of love. x

By the side of the river he trotted as one trots, when very small, by the side of a man who holds one spell-bound by exciting stories; and when tired at last, he sat on the bank, while the river still chattered on to him, a babbling procession of the best stories in the world, sent from the heart of the earth to be told at last to the insatiable sea.

^^^ maybe some people find it hard talking about problems with people much younger than them?

i dont know, but yeah try the msn idea user_name mentioned.
it would be hard to enforce, as people are pretty free to roam into whatever forum they please here.

How's about you try being a little less ageist, that'll get you round your problem.

Chillax? There's two sides of the coin really. Of course a lot of the younger people on here are very mature, just as some of the older members are.. not. :P Please let's not make this just random accusations being thrown around.

As others have said... I don't see how it would work, really. Just add a new room to chat and if younger people go in, tell them to leave? No way. Something password-protected? How would that be set up? And to once again repeat others words, I think it would take away from the community feeling if we keep dividing RYL into more and more subgroups.

The Veterans' Corner has already been suggested - there's no law saying people talking on that forum can't talk in chat as well. Or, for example, when asking for support in chat it's okay to say that you don't want to talk about it to younger people.

[And to add a new spin to the maturity thing - I can't think of many topics this would concern, but I suppose there might be things not suitable for younger people. Never forget that there are people as young as 12 here - for all their maturity, there are limits to what I would subject 12-year-olds to. No offence.]

Mmmm.
I can see it from both points of view, to be honest.
I think it would be good to have a room for Veteran side of things. Of course, i understand it didn't work on V2, but, i have heard people bring this up quite a few times, so it's very possible that it will more likely work this time round.

Don't really think it's fair to start attacking someone for merely bringing up a suggestion. Of course, it did make me go "errr" in regards to the 30+, because from what i've seen there's only a small percentage of people on RYL in that specific age range.

I agree though that the younger ones can be just as (if not more) mature than any adult on here.
Infact, i often find some adults more immature than 14/15/16 year olds.
Can work both ways.

I'm not particularly fussed either way, but i can see how some people would benefit from an "older" room being in chat.
