Finding beauty amongst scars *not directly SI but could trigger*
Hey folks, just thought I'd share something I saw on tv the other night.
I walked into the living room and the tv was on, Oprah was playing, now normally I don't watch it but this show was on how the views of beauty differ in different areas of the world, some of you here might have seen it too. Anyway when I walked in they announced that coming up next was about this tribe in Ethiopia where the women scar themselves to attract a husband, so of course I had to stay and see just what this was all about
"For the women of the Karo tribe in southern Ethiopia, beauty is literally skin deep. During childhood, girls allow their elders to cut scars onto their stomachs.
"The main reason for my scars is to attract a male that will give me joy, because I will be beautiful and hopefully get a husband," says one girl during her Taboo interview.
Once a Karo girl has received the last of her scars, she's allowed to marry and have children"
Watching this and listening to the people talking about how they would attract a good man because with their scars they would finally be beautiful. I just found it so intriguing. because for so many of us here, our scars are the bane of our existence and we go to such trouble to disguise them because who would want us so damaged. And here, they find such beauty in it. It's a something to be proud of. Who would have thought. It's such a far cry from here where there's such a stigma attached and people are constantly judged and rediculed for them. If only we could all find such beauty in our scars.......
