computer problems

Ok i am normally good with this stuff but i can't work this out at all. I have never had this my laptop won't boot past the BIOS as it says there is no operating system which i know there is, but then when i try to reinstall it can't pick up my CD-ROM or my hard-drive which is annoying and my BIOS gets filled with '''''''''''''''''' where it is meant to say the make and serial number of the laptop and i keep getting "NTLDR is corrupt" and then shuts down. It has me stumped dose anyone know a way around this?

Sorry if any of this insults your intelligence.

Have you tried changing the BIOS to boot from the CD first, or possibly only? What do you mean by 'doesn't pick up'? Do you get any errors? Are the h/d and CD drive listed in the BIOS still?

Also.. what did you do with your laptop before this happened? Install anything, change any settings? Is it possible the hard drive's f*cked?

NTLDR is (if I recall rightly) the loader for XP and the MBR should point to it, so either your BIOS isn't recognising your hard drive, your hard drive's dead, some other hardware issue, or uhmm something's wiped or edited the MBR e.g. if you've repartitioned recently.

it didn't insult my intelligence the BIOS will show the CD and HD sometimes not all i do set it to reboot from CD as i have to thats the way to reinstall windows onto it. the BIOS will read the make and model number of the two drives one second the next it will just read CD:''''''''''' and IDE0 '''''''''''''''''''''''''' so im guessing both the HD and BIOS are ruined. I've rebooted the BIOS but it made no difference.

As for the last thing i installed it was a spyware detector which picked up a peice of spyware from miniclip then it just died before i could find out what it was
