ive been thinking about this over the past couple of weeks, not sure if this is the right place fot it, but dont think it fits anywhere else
alot of people talk about depression as a dark cloud, and i can kinda understand that, i thought it would be interesting to see how we try to describe/ explain our feelings
for me, its like somone reaches inside me and grabs my heart, then pulls me down into the black nothingness by it.
for me it's a floating tarp. It flows down around me and gets pegged down by my fears. But it lifts. this is the longest time in a while its been pegged down. but the pegs are loosening a little. my friends are pulling them up for me. So yeah... thats what mine is like. a tarp... a dark tarp... but it will pass.
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
A friend once did a painting for A level art a long time ago now. And it really summed up how it feels for me....being stuck behind plastic in your own little bubble, isolated from the world and everyone in it. Unable to communicate, to be noticed, to enjoy life like everyone else...

'The Hardest thing to do in this world is to live in it'
They'll never see,
I'll never be,
I struggle on and on to feed this hunger,
Burning deep inside of me.
another way i see it, is im climbing a mountain, but i keep on falling back down onto the sharp rocks. as i get higher up the mountain its harder, sometimes a hand appears to help me up, but most times it lets me go, and i fall back down the mountain.
I can't think of the exact way I can explain how it feels for me and the thing that most comes to mind is Harry Potter when the dementors come and "all the happiness has been sucked out of (my) world" and that "I will never be happy again".
Well its well over a year old so id hardly say copy cat. I was really glad you made this cus i forgot about that old thread and it was nice to re-read and see some more too. :~))
Basically, my depression is like a huge dark pit in the middle of nowhere. I keep digging and digging to try and get out, but only end up getting further into the pit.
Yeah.

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I'm out of control, and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.
~ Marilyn Monroe
Its like the most perfect lie ever told. It completely takes you in and you believe every word and yet you know its a lie but you still keep believing.
I can't think of the exact way I can explain how it feels for me and the thing that most comes to mind is Harry Potter when the dementors come and "all the happiness has been sucked out of (my) world" and that "I will never be happy again".
Mary Anne, you might be interested to know that J K Rowling suffers depression, which started after the birth of her child. The dementors are actually her way of describing what depression is like, so you have picked up exactly what she was describing.
I think the complication is that we are muggles and not wizards, so we can feel the effect but not see the attacker. But then, the idea of the Patrtonus charm - that the depression / dementor can be repelled by strong happy thoughts - sort of resonates for me too.
Another common analogy used for depression is the viscous black dog that stalks you and keeps attacking - if I recall correctly, this was the way Winston Churchill described his experiences with depression. For a dog owner like me the image doesn't really work - I see my dog as faithful and loyal, and she gives me unconditional love. Nonetheless, there is some power to the idea of being attacked by bouts of depression in that some days can just be so miserable for no apparent reason. Maybe for me it is staggering blindly through the thick and dark fog, stalked by dementors.
i kinda see mine as a big black hole in the middle of me sucking everything thing *shrugs*
The glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time you fall. (chinese proverb)
We can cure physical disease with medicine but the only cure for loneliness, despair and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love.(mother teresa)
A big heavy blanket. One that weighs down on you, making it hard to breath. One that blocks all the light all contact, even the fresh air. So there is nothing but this pressing darkness.
Lukkas, I had no idea that what J K Rowling was referring to, she nailed it. Like the idea of being able to remove it with happy thoughts, shame I am not a wizard.
Mary Anne, I only found out quite recently too - made me go back and think more about Prisoner of Azkaban. It also has me realising just how awful she meant Azkaban to be: as a place where everyone is kept in a state of permanent depression. It just serves to illustrate how warped the Ministry of Magic was, if it could see such a punishment be applied routinely.
I find the best way of describing it, is of being stuck in a bubble-although you can see everything going on and hear everything going on you cannot interact with it, you cannot be a part of it, and no-one can touch you, no-one can help you, no matter how hard they try because you are stuck, alone and isolated in this bubble, no matter how many people are around you.

if everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride, we'd see the day that nobody died
