Advice and Encouragement

Okay for some reason I feel like helping myself today, so I contacted my University Health Center and asked if they are able to make me a referral to a new psychiatrist as I haven't been honest with my current one for some time and want to see if I can find one I am more comfortable with. They told me to make an appointment to see the doctor. I am scared, I am not sure if I want to start all over again, and actually talk to a new psych. As for the appointment I am scared to make one because I am not sure what to say or what they are going to ask. I am also scared that I am going to be too nervous to be completely honest. Any help would be appreciated. I havent made an appointment yet.

It sounds like a new psychiatrist might help. If you aren't being honest with them, then they can't help you as much as they could, and it's not nice to not feel totally comfortable with one. Starting fresh could be really good. And it could really help you. Make an appointment, and see how the first few sessions go..? I know how nervous it can be, maybe have a think about things you would like to say and make a little note so you can remember?

I think firstly a WELL DONE! is in order. Honey this is a big step and well done for taking it. My advice would be to print out what you wrote above and maybe some of yoru other posts? You can just hand those to the doc and get that going. HOw does that sound?? *cuddles* you CAN do this!

Thanks, thats a really good suggestion. I think I might do this, i got an appointment next tuesday. I am considering cancelling it, am just not sure what I want to do. I am scared what they are going to ask me and what I am going to be able to tell, given how shy I am its really hard to talk about my feelings. This first step is just a regular doctor, but they said since I've never been there before that the first session will be about an hour. I am really intimidated and a little concerned with what they are going to have me do/ask me and if i am going to be able to say what I want, it just makes me so nervous ill get all shaky and my voice will shake too! I know I shouldn't cancel it becasue I do need to start getting help again.

Its too bad that I have a whole week to doubt myself :( I am starting to wonder if I should just stay with the doc I have now even though I am not honest. Im so confused

Honestly, I tried calling back and booking another appointment but it took me an hour to get through the first time I wanted to even book one. It is not a very big clinic and it is through my University, my guess is they are extremely backlogged because of so many students who don't have insurance coverage and are relying on UHIP (university health insurance plan). I withdrawn from UHIP as I have my own coverage (that and the fact we have a health care program in Canada that costs nothing. I want to go to through the University because for some reason it makes me feel more comfortable.

So even to cancel it would be a huge hassel and easier to go! Also, if you just miss your appointment think of the time that would waste for that doctor and stuff.... So it is morally right to go! *nods*
