would you say its worth it?
Yes. I think everyone can take something out of treatment, even if it doesn't solve things completely. For all that my therapy/ medication hasnt done, I now understand a lot more about myself, and why I am the way I am and things in my character that make me think the way I do.
It is also really good not to have to bottle stuff up and knowing I have a safe space to relieve it each week.
would you recommend it to anyone else?
Yes, absolutely! I think if you're worried, its worth giving it a go. The worst that can really happen is you decide professional help isnt workng for you, and you decide not to accept any further help. I always think you never really know unless you try something and it could be the break through you've been looking for!
do you think it has helped?
Yes and no. Yes because I've been able to relieve myself of things that would just have built up, and they have helped me overt many crises.
That said, Im still not better, it hasn't cured me, in fact Ive only got worse. Sometimes I think that its made me more confused that perhaps I was before, and certainly with my social worker ( whos like my main therapy person) I find myself swinging between being really grateful to her and incredibly pissed off with her.
At the end of the day, a certain amount of responsibility for whether getting help works in terms of improvement or recovery, is down to whether you work with them or against them. If you don't want to get better or don't want to make changes, or go in with a really sceptical " you can't help me" attitude, then you are unlikely to see long term results. Because they can talk and talk to you for all the time in the world, but unless you make the conscious decision that you want to address your behaviours, they can magically stop you feeling the way you are.
