Second psych visit...what happens?

I saw my psychiatrist for the second time yesterday (after a 5 week gap) and the consultation must have lasted no more than 10 minutes. He asked me a few questions, made a couple of notes, put up the dosage of one of my meds and told me he would see me again in 4 weeks.

My GP told me that the diagnosis given after the first visit was not a final one so I was expecting him to explore things further but he didn't. I left feeling neglected and sort of let down in a way; almost like he was just trying to get rid of me.

That leads me nicely on to my question. Is this normal for a second visit or am I just being paranoid?

are you in adult services?

in all honesty,if youre in adult, then thats sometimes pretty typical of a psych visit,so no,youre not being paranoid.......
i think sometimes, when you go see your psych, you have to get everything out you need/want to say as soon as you get in there,so that the psych can maybe ask you about it and get more info.
sometimes i think that psychs think if you dont give them much info, then not much has changed....
if that makes any sense?

Unfortunately it is normal yes, psychiatrists seem to try and get you out the door as quickly as possible unless you press on with what you want to talk about and stand your ground so they don't hurry you away.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease. Now at least I can stop feeling rejected and let down.

Ok...so I have to wait four weeks but at least I will be prepared next time.

Yes, that's normal for a second visit.

The 3rd one might be longer, depending on how you're going - I was in the middle of efexor withdrawal hell on my 3rd visit, so he spent half an hour talking at me about abundance in an attempt to sway me from suidical feelings!
My 2nd visit was weird, as he was playing to the audience of 2 medical students....

If it concerns you so much, why not find another doctor? Although from the sounds of it, that's what everyone is like...it could never hurt to try though. So different where I am.

My visits are about 15 minutes every 2-3 weeks. He basically briefly asks questions about my mood and what's been going on in my life. So not too much going on from my experience as well.
