erm... i think everything about this site is good n you guys have put so much work into it and im very greatful i have so much respect for you but me and a few other people dont like the new chat we prefer the old chat
sorry for any inconvienvce
and sorry about spelling
xxx
have the most respect for you
Could you maybe explain what it is about the new rooms you don't like? It will be easier for the chat mods to explain why they made the changes if they understand what it is you don't like.
Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,

And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
Hey i have spoken to a few people and left a comment on another thread. I did so when anger because of the way people would not listen to my views so i am going to rephrase it in a nicer less angry way :)
I preferred the old chat as being inside a room made me feel more like i was n a place with people i felt the atmosphere i enjoyed, for example, feeling like i was on a HUGE comfy couch with loads of nice people. I just think it had a nice touch.
When you entered a room there was an explanation which were a little confusing so maybe as a suggestion could the rooms have names and then in a bracket or something have completely serious, serious, general etc.
Also we have lost 2 rooms is it. i think having 5 rooms would be nice. It has bee explained to me that studies show u had empty rooms all the time one will always be empty but, 1. i dont have huge faith i can go with a person quietly to speak alone. 2. That if there is a free room i now do not feel like i should go there if it was mostly general i would think i now cant go there to speak about my serious problem.
When loads of people are in one room I (and others) really dont like it. a small handful of people within the room will dominate, I was told "oh well make friends and chat" but when ever you try you are ignored. So having less people in a room is nice especially when meeting or introducing new people or you want to talk to people you know here.
This site has been very very helpful to me. even when i am not wanted help myself i am here to offer other and keep in touch with people who have helpt me and been nice when i have needed it.
So maybe to re name the rooms add another and have what they are called now as a sub heading to make it simpler for new people.
There was no way of me personaly knowing the rooms were goign to change maybe a questionaire sent to all members would help let the Mods know what we want.
and finally i think this should be a thread now used for people to express what they really liked about old chat and the new so a combination could possibly be made.
THANK YOU :D x

Ok, I want to make sure I'm understanding what your problem with the new chat rooms are. I get confused easily, so I want to make sure I read it right.
1. You don't feel there isn't anyplace private to talk with only 4 rooms.
2. You think the new names/descriptions are too restrictive and doesn't allow you to branch off from a room if it gets too full?
Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
Well, for number 1. there is a private messaging feature in chat that allows you to talk to someone privately without going to another room.
As for the room names, don't let the room name direct the atmosphere. The room names are there to make sure that people get what they need while in chat.
It can be really hard for people who need support when they are in a room and everyone is talking about their favorite movie or something. With the new names it is easier to see the purpose of the rooms and what takes precedence over what.

Aidey, can we just employ you as our public relations officer on here? ;)
Okay, it's late, but let me try to address some of the points raised here.
the unwanted - would you like to explain in more detail what you (and others, it seems) don't like about the changes in chat?
Over the last couple of weeks and months people complained about the setup of chat, and from the feedback the moderators received, the general consensus seemed to be that a) we don't need as many rooms and b) the names are confusing.
There is a thread, right in this forum, as a sticky, explaining what the different rooms are for. The names weren't new; they had been taken over from our old chat. The explanations were what we thought was clear... and yet people did not heed any of that. Clearly, a change was needed, and as I mentioned above that was the impression we got from members.
I haven't had much time to be in chat today, but whenever I was in there, at most two rooms were occupied - as has been the case lately whenever I was in. That doesn't make it a universal truth, of course. But it does suggest to me that four rooms should still suffice.
As far as private conversations are concerned, Aidey already pointed out the "private chat" function. Have you tried that? It works just the same as two people being alone in a chatroom, and it actually more private.
"a small handful of people within the room will dominate" - yes, it happens, and lately it has quite often happened that general talk took away attention from support in mixed rooms. This way, things are much clearer than before, I think.
Seriously - it's only been one day. Nearly every change chat has gone through was hated at first. It wasn't so long ago that what you now call the "old" chat was met with disapproval and everyone wanted the old system back. At least try this new way before condemning it - that's all we ask. ;)

Its pain, its pleasure

ok I hate when a room gets too crowded cos i feel like i cant talk to people then i end up just leaving because noone really follows the convo and if you need support you dont get a reply most of the time if the room is full due to the fact the conversation goes so fast people dont tend to notice others or just choose not to either way people dont get support from full rooms.
Secondly I believe that having less rooms will cause problems for those who do like to go into one room without having the issue of trying to follow two chat screens when your in a private chat with someone else, therefore (in summary of this point) having less rooms will cause issues with those who do find it hard to follow two screens when they would usually just ask someone to switch rooms with them so they can talk.
Thirdly I agree that having rooms just set to general, mostly general, mostly serious, all serious is kind of too restrictive because I would feel like I cant go into two of the rooms depending on my mood and would find getting help when i need it if most of the people are in the general rooms would be difficult due to the room name.
Lastly I dont like the numbers on the names of the rooms. I find chat hard to work to help me at times and feel this new chat will cause even more issues rather than sort them out. Sorry for this but i needed to share my point. (also I just went in and thought i had broke it like when i thought i had broken google but it turned out google had turned its lights off)

Reason: making individual points clearer
If you have a private screen open you don't need to follow the main chat room you are in unless you want to. It's still just one screen, same as if you were in a empty chat room. I'm specifically talking about the private messaging which is in a new window, not the whisper feature.
I think something people are missing here is that the chat rooms all have a specific purpose. The names reflect those purposes.
Not to sound harsh, but some people might be in a general room because they don't want to give support right then, and they have that right. 3 of the rooms can have support talk in them, and I think more often than not there will be people in at least one of those rooms. If there isn't anyone you can always pop into the general room and ask "hey if there is anyone up for supporting I would like to talk to someone in the support room".
Sometimes the thread of the conversation may change, and become inappropriate for a room, but that is what the mods are for.

That's kind of the point in the room names now. People would take over Serious discussion and, I've even witnessed it, people would be ignored when asking for support in a support only room because those into their general conversation wouldn't get out.
Clearly people weren't considerate enough to leave the support rooms open and use the general/mixed rooms appropriately, so the name changes have been done as so to prevent confusion and to hopefully get people to use the rooms they wish to.
If you're keen on supporting someone, then feel free to go into a support room and do your deed, no matter what your mood is. It's not trying to be that restrictive and, really, this could have all been prevented had people used the rooms appropriately.
Hopefully now people can do so. And, like Rike, usually I've seen a maximum of two or three rooms being used. There are three rooms where general talk can take place. There are three rooms where supportive talk can take place. I don't really see the issue.
I used to use chat on a regular basis before i changed my username (due to my * i can't use it unless i take it out), and i used to go straight to the room with the most people in (regardless of whether it was general or serious) - simply because the other rooms were empty.
I do feel that now the room names have changed, it has seemingly become somewhat more restrictive for the chat users as to what they feel they can/can't say.
People are automatically going to go towards the rooms with more people in if they need support - this means it's still going to have the same problems as before with people not using the specific rooms for support etc. It's going to be difficult to get the members to use the rooms properly, old habits die hard at the end of the day..and i can see how it's making regular chat users uncomfortable as they simply aren't sure where they're now meant to go as they're concerned about upsetting others.
Whereas before..the rooms were more relaxed as to what can be said..although i can completely understand that that could cause upset with members who are simply wanting a bit of light fun, going into general, only to "feel" being bombarded by very depressed/upset members..
I do agree that it's worth giving this a week or two to see how you get on. Then if you feel you're still not liking the new system..you can always come back or go directly to the chat mods to discuss it with them. :) xx
To be honest, I think the clear instruction of what can be discussed in what room is a lot easier. When I've mentioned that people may like to branch off into a general/mixed/serious room, I've been told the room descriptions aren't clear enough and hopefully this will eliminate that problem. It isn't restrictive because it was like this before - just with cosier names. We still had general chat rooms, mixed chat rooms and serious chat rooms and we do now. Except it's clearer for everyone and easier for the moderators to let people know when the conversation could be better suited to another room.
It's not that it's any more restrictive, the purposes of each room are just more obvious and easier to enforce now.

Exactly! makes sense to me!
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
Thank you! I think Euphoria Blossom and ~Aidey~ have explained things well.
The only difference is the number of rooms and the names. Before there were Two general rooms, two mixed rooms, and two support rooms. They weren't all being used properly, or at all in some instances, so a smaller number of rooms and more direct descriptions of what is supposed to go in each will hopefully help sort out the issues.
So far I've seen it with a division, seven people in serious while there were another group in general.
It's still chat, no matter what the room names are.
changes are always going to happen it will never please everyone you just have to grit your teeth and deal with it this is the real world not a fairytale where everything goes your way it's a couple of name changes wow its not the end of the world the same people go in there the place has just had names changes to make it less confusing.
ruin to recover that was a big move a lot complained but in the end a lot of them saw it for the best and why it had to be done, this is a chat room on a support site who really cares if the rooms are called the coffee shop? at the end of the day you should be glad we have ryl and a chat room to use for support because it could so easily not be here.
I think Dramatics* Post makes more sense then mine. i wrote nicely to voice my opinions. i no chat is not catered for me and other prefer how it is. i just think after a week or two you should maybe ask EVERYONE what they do and dont like about chat now and before.
I think you Mods are not really listening to what some of us have to say and feel.
we all need to be happy here.
im fed up with the phrase "the people make the atmosphere" i totally agree with that but dont you think coming to chat and thinking of going in to bright orange room or comfy couch sounds more inviting then im gong to completely serious because im going to cut myself. ok it the truth that is probably what you are going to do but if your on a downer you feel you going to comfy couch then you welcomed with warm friendly people make it feel better ??
I just wish someone will listen and say we will take what you keep saying in to consideration i am not the only one who has stated they dislike the new chat im just voicing that opinion and hoping other who feel this way and dont want to seem like they are moaning do to.
because right now i feel all i am doing is moaning i am in a way but only because people are like your wrong new chat is great it is to some but not all

fran whatever anyone says to you like yesterday in chat even when erin was talking to you about it, is going to satisfy you unless they turn it back to what it was?
