Ive been told I have diabetes

It was 7.30pm and my doctor phoned to say I had diabetes. I went into shock. It was only that morning I had my fasting blood and sample test.

On the sample it showed I had sugar in it. She took bloods from me and I thought nothing of it. She checked my height and weight to find out I have lost two stone. ( Which I was over the moon about )

I have type 2 diabetes. I have to take a tablet ( metformin ) each day with food.

They are going to take me off Olanzipine ( Zyprexa ) as soon as possible, I think its because the tablet can cause weight gain as a side effect. Im worried that I will hear her voice in my head, to break my legs.

I keep pinching myself, I cant have this. Im still in shock. Im sure they have made a mistake.

Thanks for listening, I think its going to take a while for it to sink in.

Hon, i had it but i don't anymore. I wason metformin for 2 years. You WILL be okay. There are other meds that you can take whilst you're on it. Just look up the diets on the net and get yourself into a routine as quickly as you can. *hugs you tight*

Jadey pie i'm here if you need to talk to me :)

I'm sorry to hear about the news you got.
My mum has type 1 [insulin dependant] diabetes so I know secondhand what it's like. I hope you will get used to taking the tablets and adjusting what you eat etc with as little distress as possible. {hug}
Are you going to be taking another anti-psychotic in place of the Olanzapine?

Thank you for all your support. I will have to look at my diet carefully. My only Vice is Food. I need to loose weight anyway, it might be the kick up the bum I need to give up the goodies.

Trace, you always give out great advice, so thank you for that. You are a wise woman and I always look out for your posts.

Jess its nice to know that I can get off it once I am thinner and fitter. You give me hope. < your a star >

Thankyou for your comments Catherine too. I hope I can be put on another anti-psychotic. Im just scared of the cross over because I dont want to hear her voice again. Its going to take a while to ween me off my one and go onto another one.

I hope you manage to settle into your new routine without too many problems. It's never nice getting news like that but like it's been said, it is good that they found it and can treat it. *hugs you*

I think it is great that they found it and can treat it before it does damage to your system.

My husband is my best friend.

In forgiving others, we are not exonerating them. They may not deserve exoneration. Rather, in forgiving others we are giving up our anger over the fact that what happened is not what "should" have happened or that our life is not the way it "should" have been.

Im sure it will sink in soon enough when I see my Doctor on Friday for the first time since he told me over the phone.

hey,
I really don't post in Vets, ever, but I just wanted to say that I have diabetes (although it's type 1) and I have done for nearly 16 years now.
Once you get over the initial shock, which I'm really sorry you're having to go through, you should find that it's easily manageable, and doesn't stop you from doing anything that you want to.
Your specialists should be able to deal woth your APs, where I am, we have a specialist diabetes psych liason team, and they've been absolutely great, apparently there are loads of teams like this all around the country.

I hope it doesn't seem like I'm interfering, but if there's any way I can help, please just let me know.

*hugs* sorry to hear that the news came as such a shock. It will, however get better - once you are settled into a new routine it will be easier. There are other medicines that can be taken and this is something to discuss with your medical team, GP and Diabetic Nurse/Consultant.

I have type 1 diabetes, and have done since I was 4 (a good 21 or so years now) and it is not the easiest thing in the world (I do 4 injections a day) but a part of me inside knows that taking care of it, is better than waiting for any possible consequences. In this way, it is better that you have found out now and the medical team are doing something about it.

*hugs* Let me know if there is any help or advice I can give.
