everytime i try and log into chat i cant get in and a msg comes up saying...
Authentication failed.
what the heck does that mean and why cant i get into chat??

They do have a special character, it's just hiding. There is an _ in their name.
Basically chat is silly and hates "special" characters like _ or - or ! or ~ or * and won't let you in. You don't need an underscore between two words on RYL, so if you want to get into chat the easiest thing for you to do will be to request a user name change without the underscore in your name.
You can find the form to request a username change in the control panel.

whenever I try to save a chat log. Chat wont let my do it and i get disconected every time i try and save a chat log.
why is this?

save it even if it disconnects you still click save it will still save the log
