Psychosis NOS (not otherwise specified)
Affter being discharged today the dr said he will write down i have psychosis NOS, which means i dont fit in the bipoloar catogry or the schiz catogry. He also said it means they aren't quite sure either but they need to write a diagnosis down for the record.
Just wondered if anyone had any experiences or could explainm a little between what psychosis and schizophrenia is, and why nits not specified?

Hmm, I find it quite frustrating because I haven't been given a proper diagnosis.
I have been told that I have suffered from a "pychotic episode"
I don't know if thats similair to Pychosis NOS but they refuse to give me any other diagnosis explaining my pychosis like schitzoprenia or anything like that.
The best person to speak to this about will probably be your pych
That reminds me I'm going to speak to mine about my diagnosis!

Brief Psychotic Episode is different to Psychosis NOS.
A Brief Psychotic Episode lasts up to a month, and is often stress triggered and/or part of a larger personality disorder diagnosis.
Psychotic Disorder NOS
This category includes psychotic symptomatology (i.e., delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior) about which there is inadequate information to make a specific diagnosis or about which there is contradictory information, or disorders with psychotic symptoms that do not meet the criteria for any specific psychotic disorder.
Examples include: - Postpartum psychosis.
Psychotic symptoms that have lasted for less than 1 month but that have not yet remitted, so that the criteria for Brief Psychotic Disorder are not met.
Persistent auditory hallucinations in the absence of any other features.
Persistent nonbizarre delusions with periods of overlapping mood episodes that have been present for a substantial portion of the delusional disturbance. Situations in which the clinician has concluded that some type of psychotic disorder may be present, but is unable to determine whether it is primary, due to a general medical condition, or substance induced.

I have paranoid schizophrenia; you can PM me with any questions if you want, Strawberry Gashes.
|
PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
