I have a Wii and my brother has an Xbox360 and we constantly debate which is best. The amount of time he play's Tomb Raider on my Wii you'd think he'd see my point (but i think that has something to do with Lara rather than the console)
yes, Xbox has HD graphics, yes it play's DVD's and yes it can be hooked up to the net (for a price)
but Wii can also be hooked to the net (for a slightly smaller price) it's smaller, cheaper, easier to set up, doesnt require you to fork out for a HDTV to fully enjoy it's graphics and it's wireless motion controllers give you more of a workoout than you think, even if you don't buy wii fit.
why haven't i mentioned the PS3? because despite the differences between my brother and myself about the subject of the best console we are agreed on this; the PS3 specs are the same as the Xbox360's. Thays right, they are identical. only the 360 is cheaper.

It depends what type of gamer you are. For the extreme casual gamer the Wii would be a good purchase. It has the novelty value, but it doesn't have the hardcore games. It doesn't have the graphics or capability to play the good FPSs etc.
The 360 is good, but is still having hardware issues. It might have peaked too soon. Bill Gates is doing well to get previously Sony-exclusives onto the 360, it's amazing what wads of cash can do.
The PS3 has had a lot of teething problems. But it has a lot further to go. I think it has more life in it than the 360.
If you like games, especially the type that are prevalent on the PS3 and 360 then look at the lists of exclusive games for both and see if any take your fancy. Then you'd obviously buy that one. Look for future releases too.
I have no idea, I've only ever owned playstations so I'm just abit partial to them :P I've never played with a wii anymore so wouldn't know what its like. and well id never get a xbox, hear bad stuff bout it.. so yeah :P
Well discounting the PS3 (Haven't used)... the xbox is generally more appealing because of the amazing games you can get for it... Wii games are more accessable for all people/ages but the xbox is much geter for my demographic
For me it's the 360, yes the ps3 has the better spec and the wii has the casual market all but sold. But just look at the exclusives 360 has gears of war2, fable 2 and too human and thats just the end of this year. For me i prefer the online service of the 360 and the exclusive dlc (downloadable content) that the 360 will hav for games like GTA IV and Fallout 3. And is the console in the uk to have rock band at the moment.

When you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you" you were carried out of are lifes into the next and when its my time to leave this life I know i will be carried into the next life with you.

For me, it's a lose lose situation. It's too early to debate about which console is best because there's so few games and at such little variety. You've basically only got shoot 'em ups and Prince of Persia knock-offs on Xbox360 and PS3. The Wii although being a complete gimmick has stood well amongst it's contenders, mainly because its re-newed numerous classic games like Double Dragon, House Of The Dead, etc.
