why?

i have been in hospital for the last 2 weeks and they have been giving me zyprexa(antipsychotic) and a antidepressant, but when i asked my doctor if she has made a diagnosis, she told me that i only have low self esteem and no depression or psychosis. then why does she give me antidepressants and antipsychotics if i don't have depression or psychosis?

im sorry if i confuse you.

Hmm, I'm not too clued up on the reasons why anti-depressants and anti-psychotics are given out, I'm sorry hun.
Who prescribed them? Could you ask them why you are taking them?
Sorry I'm not much help but have some hugs *HUGS* and I hope you feel better soon

You really need to talk to the person who prescribed the medication. Sometimes they are used as a type of prevention to stop your mood from getting so low that you are diagnosed with something.

Sometimes certain med combination work well together to. You may not have psychosis, but maybe there is some evidence that zyprexa helps the antidepressant work better.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

I'm not sure either hun..

Like Tormented said, the best thing to do would be ask the doctor/psychiatrist who prescribed them.
Sometimes certain ani-psychotics are given out to calm 'violent impulses' ( eg self harm etc..) or to help with difficult repetitive thought cycles like with OCD or sometimes eating disorders too..it's not necessarily for psychosis. I don't know much about zyprexa though.

Are you still on these drugs? Sometimes a psychiatrist/doctor isn't certain what is going on and so will try you on a low dose of an anti depressant or other treatment to see if it helps but as they continue to assess you they may realise it's not right for you and will change it or take you off it completely. That has happened to me quite a few times.

Anyway, like I said, I'm not sure...

Take care.. xx

I am also currently taking Zyprexa along with other things.
I do feel something in my mix does raise my self-esteem quite a bit (which is not my only reason for taking them). So that's probably what they are hoping to do for you. But at the same time, the name of the diagnosis is not very important. Everyone's different. So you can't really lump people in to categories. But it wouldn't hurt to ask! Honestly, I would probably want to know more too.
I also hate that Zyprexa is in general called an antipsychotic. I am not psychotic. So that name doesn't make me feel better. lol. But it is used for more than psychosis.
