hiroshima a-bomb memorial day

yesterday was 63years since the atom bomb was dropped on hiroshima. i went to the memorial ceremony in the morning, wandered round the park during my lunch break, then went to a lantern float in the evening... here (i hope) are some photos from my day...

the a-dome - the only remaining structure - it was underneath the blast of the bomb so didn't get obliterated.

a-dome at night

memorial candles

lantern float to remember the victims.

Thanks for these pictures. I first heard about Hiroshima when I was a small child, and the inhumanity of it affected me deeply even then. Beautiful memorial ceremony for all those civilians indiscriminatley killed.

it was an amazing day - i went last year and was completely intoxicated by the sobering feeling it gave me... i was worried that my expectations for my emotions would ruin it for me this year, but it didn't... as it approached 8:15 in the morning i cannot even explain the emotions i felt as i thought about the plane flying towards hiroshima - countdown style.

Everytime there is an atomic test around the world the mayor of hiroshima writes a letter to the country's leaders... a copy is put in the atomic bomb museum. New letters appear all the time, and everytime i see one to the primeminister of the UK i feel a little bit worse.
