It doesnt mean "very" actually. It has numerous meanings, like "super" or "above-all" depending on which context the Germans use it.
Gaming geeks popularized the term to bring it into the modern day "street/cyber" vernacular.
So someone being Uber cool means they are super cool. Or above cool or however you want to think of it.
