Help from pub/bar/waiting staff!

Okay so in desperate need of money I was given a contact of someone who owns what I was told was a pub in London. I have no experience in this kind of work but have blagged a trial shift for this Saturday.

Anyhow, on gaining said shift I went on to the net to see if there was a website or anything with directions on it - to find that it is a freaking posh restuarant wine bar event.

So can anyone who currently works in a restaurant, pub, bar deal give me any tips so that I can wow the boss and get some shifts over the next few weeks!!

Smile, by nice to the customers. If any annoy you wait until you are out of the room before moaning about then. Act confident and friendly. If customers talk to you chat to them for a few mins.

Don't try to carry more plates/glasses than you can, there is only one way that will which is on the floor!!

I agree with Jen, customer service is THE KEY! You can't control if they don't like the food, or it's cold or anything really like that... but you can deliver it with a smile, aplogise and still make their experience enjoyable... that is the way to make them come back and that is good for your boss!

I also like Jens suggestion about staying in a comfort zone about what you can carry... ask how to carry 3 plates or glasses in one had safely... that is what I did. Shows you aren't afraid to ask for help, like to learn, like to do the best you can.

And turn out fresh looking! ;)

my bf is making me answer this as hes been doing bar work for years :P

-Make sure the customer knows that they are valued, be nice and smile.
-If your serving food and theres any offers on etc make sure you tell the customer about it.
-Confidence is key....remember if you write down the wrong order etc to sort it out asap and just apologise.
-Dont take things personally. Some customers are just rude naturally and if you know you havent done anything wrong dont let them ruin the rest of your shift.
-Be flexible in both shifts and what jobs you do. If your boss asks you to do something thats outside what your supposed to be doing, if your confident doing it, dont refuse.
-Think about how YOU like to be treated when you are out at a bar,think about when youve had good service and why it was so good.
-If its a posh place make sure you look smart and professional.
-Relax!things go wrong but thats the way you learn, getting orders wrong etc isnt the end of the world!
