Sorry for posting a lot. Half of RYL is blocked on this computer and the internet is very slow, so I am finding it easier to post than to read the threads that are blocked on this computer for no reasonable reason.
I have bad memories from my section 136 and I keep going back to it in my head. Do you think that writing everything that happened during this section 136 process would help me? Or would it be too triggering? I feel like the memory is trapped inside me and it hurts.
What impact does a section 136 have? Is it like an arrest? Will I have a police record? Will it limit my choice of job/travelling to other countries etc? I'm worried.
Has anyone else been on a section 136? Do you think it helped or do you think it was unjustified?

Mentally disordered persons found in public places (section 136) Duration of detention: 72 hours maximum. Procedure: if it appears to a police officer that a person in a public place is 'suffering from mental disorder' and is 'in immediate need of care or control', she or he can take that person to a 'place of safety', which is usually a hospital, but can be a police station. Section 136 lasts for a maximum of 72 hours, so that the person can be examined by a doctor and interviewed by an ASW and 'any necessary arrangements' made for her or his treatment or care.
Being detained, in itself, does not mean that you lose the rights enjoyed by other people. It does not necessarily mean that you cannot manage your own financial or legal affairs.
Your right to vote is not affected, provided your name is on the electoral register, either at your old address, or at the hospital. It is your responsibility to get your name on the register at the hospital. You can use a postal vote, or leave the ward with permission from your RMO.
If, on the day of the election, you lack the mental capacity to choose a candidate, you may be prevented from voting.
People who have had psychiatric treatment often face discrimination, for example in employment or when taking out insurance. If the discriminatory treatment takes place in the UK, and is connected with a mental health disability that is substantial and long term, it may be unlawful under the Disability Discrimination Act. Time limits for taking action under the DDA are very short, so you should seek advice, as soon as possible, from a solicitor, advice centre or from Mind's Legal Unit.
If you have been detained in hospital, you may have problems in obtaining a visa to visit certain countries. You will need to take it up with the embassy of the country concerned, as the DDA does not apply overseas.

It sounds to me like maybe if you don't find it too upsetting you could maybe write down what happened as long as you don't feel too upset by it, I mean if it's playing on your mind a lot than maybe it would help to get it out of your head, by writing down what happened
or you could try talking to the staff in hospital about what happened and why and maybe they could answer some of the questions you have about being sectioned, sorry I don't know much about section 136 but I have been sectioned in the past and I know it helped me to talk about what happened even though it was vey traumatic,

Please someone tell me that Trace is wrong re section 136 showing up on CRB - no offence Trace. I am currently filling in paperwork to be admitted to the roll as a solicitor and have to have a CRB check as part of that. The firm know I have "depression" but don't know any of the other problems - ODs, sh, anxiety, panic, suspected personality disorder, etc. They don't know re psych recommendation re anti-psychotic either, just know about ADs and sleeping aids occasionally.
Sorry to hijack this thread but I am surely screwed if Section 136 shows up.
My section 136 the other month wasn't much fun either but from what I can gather it was nowhere near as distressing as yours Oly.
Again, sorry for hijacking your thread but my section 2 is a civil thing, right and so won't show up?

I'm screwed if my sect 136 shows up on a CRB as I am going to become a healthcare assistant as a part time job when I get better. Thanks for the support - much appreciated. My sectioning involved 5 police men, leg restraints, handcuffs, a police van and seclusion. I remember everything in detail and it disturbs me. I'll post properly later - using mobile atm. Sorry, not a joking matter really as I think they take away people's rights too quickly due to people being afraid of the concept of "mental illness", which is rich considering I am considered (sorry, stupid grammar) to be a "rare talent" in the law and they would be grateful for my representation. I want someone to take things out of my hand now before I do something I shouldn't. If it wasn't for others, I would have ended everything now as I don't belong here. I's so sorry for hijacking yet another post of yours. Hope you are doing well hun as you have been so much help to people here!

I'm not complaining as such that I was section 136-ed, because I think they were right to do it, considering I was convinced that the policemen were spies and were going to take me somewhere where they could torture me for the information stored in the microchip in my head.
I still am convinced I have a microchip in my head and that my thoughts are being broadcast to the spies. People keep telling me its not real, but the feeling/thought is so strong that I am fully convinced.

i wonder if it might always be there, or for a while at least. i know for me, olanzapine makes the voices quieter and i'm less impulsive and more able to think rationally and keep myself save, but i still fervently believe i have a microchip and about spies and stuff. i still write about it. it's just that it affects my life less, it doesn't make me so "unwell".
so maybe when they've managed to get you stabilised on meds that help things will get quieter and more easy to manage. and maybe the microchip will go away (i don't know) or maybe it won't. i know it's as hard for people to covnince you that it's not real, as much as it's hard for you to convince them that it is!
I've found an article that says it does show up. It refers to the period of the MH order, plus two years after and it expires after 5. It's half that if you were/are under 17. I found somewhere else that said it will stay for life.
They show up on the enhanced check but not the standard one.
