To what extent do antipsychotics work?

I'm told that taking the medication I am on now will get rid of the voice I have been hearing and allow me to think more clearly as apparently I am delusional at the moment (which is complete BS!).

I was just wondering whether the medication will get rid of the voice or just make it less prominent. I'm being treated for "psychosis" or schizophrenia. They can't decide which.

Sorry if this is a little jumbled and an odd thread, i'm a little fuzzy and my minds all over the place.

I've been on aripiprazole for about 5 or 6 days now.. not really feel any different and the voice still tells me the medication is poisoned.

My antispychotics have helped me get better but will not get rid of the voices or the hallucinations, and I still have to fight "delusional thoughts". Most of getting better with my schizophrenia involves my own willpower. But I couldn't be healthy without my antipsychotics.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

My anti-pychotic has taken about 2 months to get the dosage right for it to really be effective

I started on 7.5mg Olanzapine for hearing voices and other strange ideas I had in my head (peoeple accessing my thoughts ect)

I found more or less straight away within the first 3 days I sort of noticed an improvment, I think anti-pychotics are supposed to work quicker than Anti-depressants, but it has taken about 2 months for them to find the right dosage for me to be most effective (I'm currantly on 17.5mg Olanzapine)

I've on 10mg olanzapine but it doesn't work that well. Just keeps me calm. Voices, hallucinations and what they say are delusions haven't gone. I've been on 20mg olanzapine before but that didn't do much more than 10mg olanzapine did. Here they say they do it in mg per kg of body weight, so I can't go any higher than 20mg otherwise I'd effectively be overdosing myself. Which is annoying because I have to struggle every day and my sleeping patterns are not very good. I slept for only three hours the night before last. And my appetite is poor.

Thanks again for all of your replies. I don't feel any different thus far on the medication. I was supposed to go out with my family today but I couldn't; the government are still watching me and my house.

I hope you're all doing well.
