does anyone know what it is or have the same problem?
basicly i have issues with the phone i cant talk to people i dont know on the phone i panic
also if i do know someone and i havent spoken on the ohone to them before i cant talk to them i really struggle but when i do eventually talk to them on the phone its only when ive known them for a long time like a year or so
if i get lots of calls in a day i cant handle it i can only handle a few phone calls if there short if a long one then just the one
i dont know why though
does anyone else get this?
or know what it is?
yes i have had this for years... not really sure what it is that makes it so scary. sometimes i just "forget" how to talk when i have a phonecall, so i just pick up the phone and listen to someone on the other end going "hello? hello?" t'is embarrassing. maybe it's something to do with not being able to see people's faces, so it makes it harder to communicate. like when you're face-to-face with someone, you can read their body language as well as just hear their voice. maybe people like you and me have a bit of trouble with communication, so not being able to see who we're talking to makes it harder?
I can completely relate to that, when my phone rings I usually ignore it which has led to some support I had being taken away. What is it that you worry about when talking on the phone to people you don't know? Is there anyone else who could take your calls for you or could you let people know that you would rather be contacted in other ways such as via email? Email is my main method of communication and people have started to get used to it.
I hope you can find a practical way through this. Take care.
I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.
Don't try to calm the storm, calm yourself, the storm will pass.
well most people know i have issues with talking on the phone so they wont call me so thats fine
i just dont know why im like this
i dont know what it is about it i just panic and feel really self concious about myself i dont know really its just i get paranoid about it
Yes. Me too. It was a real struggle when I moved house and had to call re insurance and other things to change my address. And at the office I rarely answer the phone. I just feel really insecure about my voice, as I've been told so many times how young I sound. I also have paranoid tendencies, and don't like to reveal any information that might be 'ammunition' for ridicule or abuse of any form.
I hate talking on the phone, unless I really know the people. It's hard, and stressful just to make a phone call for me. I love the ignore button on my phone when people call.
I have the same issues. Like when the phone rings I just want to throw it out the window. I hate to talk to people on the phone, even those I know. I practically throw up when I have to answer or call.
i can completely relate to this
i only answer some calls from very few people and i never answer my house phone
iv no ideas about the reasons behind it though, sorry
just to let uu know ur definately not alone with this
xxxx
I don't know the reasons why some people are scared of the phone.
I am.
I can talk to people I know, members of my family etc. But I can't talk to my friends on the phone, unless they ring me. I often text them just to get them to ring me, because I can't dial their phone and wait for it to ring and for them to pick up. It scares me soooo much.
I can ring helplines because they are anonymous, and have never heard your voice before...
I can't ring businesses like Halifax, or Churchill (to name a couple), and I can't ring shops to see if a game is in etc. I'm just too scared, either because they won't help me, I won't get the information or the advice I need, or they will think I'm strange because I don't know what to say.
It is kind of a problem.
The weird thing is, I love answering calls. But I can't MAKE calls.

I'm afraid of talking on the phone too. Unless it's someone I'm used to talking on the phone to. I don't know why, it just freaks me out cos you can't see them. I love texting.
Heidi,
Thank you so much for posting this... I thought I was the only one that struggled with this (sometimes) seemingly irrational fear!!!
I avoid making phone calls to "unknown" people at all costs.
It is so bad that I sometimes don't go the doctor when I know I should, because I can't get myself to make the call. I won't call customer service numbers. If I have a problem with something, I will deal with it until my husband gets home, and then beg him to call (usually making the excuse that I don't feel good and so I don't feel like calling)... I know it's wrong to lie to him, but... yeah.
Anyway... you are not alone!!!
*hugs*
We're all in the same game;
Just different levels.
Dealing with the same hell;
Just different demons.
I can relate. I don't usually answer the phone unless I know who it is - so I only really answer my mobile because the name of the person comes on the screen. If I don't recognise the number, I wait for them to leave a message.
Sometimes, I do answer the phone. I have good days and bad days. Usually I don't answer it.
I don't have TOO much trouble calling people though - because I know who I'm calling.
I don't like not knowing who it is on the end of the phone. Don't know why though...
i dont have that anymore, but i used to.
i used to clear my throat a lot before answering the phone, to make sure i would sound ok.
if it was someone for me, i would talk for a little bit (well, mainly listen) and then make up an excuse so i could hang up. and i used to get my mum to come and shout 'dinner' or something so i would have a legit excuse hehe.
and at work i used to run the other way when i heard the phone lol.
but im ok now :)
im not sure how i got ok. maybe time?
