Physical symptoms of Anxiety ?
It's hard to give an accurate description of whats going on at the moment without explainging a bit about my past.
I've been suffering from depression and self harming since i was 14, and i'm now 23. I was in an abusive relationship for 8 years and have suffered badly from it. I developed bad anxiety, i was frightened to go out of the house, and i kept having panic attacks.
When i eventually built up the courage too leave him, i moved back with my parents. Then i started getting ill in february. I was dealt blows of ear infections which developed into labyrinthitus. Tonsilitus, chronic dizzyness, fatigue, horrible dreams, and most recently the worst cystitus of my life.
I wondered if anybody else has suffered the physical symptoms of anxiety as i don't know what is 'normal' and what is not. Every time i go to the doctors with something i believe is a real problem ie/ the cystitus, which was causing me immense pain, they fob me off by saying its all stress related. I recently went back to the doctors because i was extremely short of breath after taking some penecillin. They blamed this on anxiety too.
I've been getting physical problem after problem since february. I can't work and i'm just so depressed all of the time. Is all of this normal? Can you really get so sick just from worry ??
help!

Even if they are brought on by anxiety, they still need to be treated. And of course you can make yourself sick with worry! I do it all the time. Everyone is different, but my anxiety makes me horribly tense, I get knots all up and down my back. Right now it's to the point where I can hardly lean down to pick up the kids at work. I've never made myself as sick as you are, but I'm sure it's possible. Try going back to the doctor and telling them that you are really bothered by these illnesses. If they wont help, go somewhere else.
Best of luck

Anxiety manifests in many different ways. I have physical symptoms when I am anxious including fatigue, upset stomach, shortness of breathe, headache, shakiness....Doctors tend to attribute all symptoms with stress when I person is diagnosed with anxiety; they often don't look deeper to see if it is a problem. I find that depression, anxiety, panic and everything else in my records always seem to be the first place my doctor goes. I am not sure if it is practical for you but could you go to a different doctor?

"Whenever someone sorrows, I do not say, "forget it," or "it will pass," or "it could be worse" -- all of which deny the integrity of the painful experience. But I say, to the contrary, "It is worse than you may allow yourself to think. Delve into the depth. Stay with the feeling. Think of it as a precious source of knowledge and guidance. Then and only then will you be ready to face it and be transformed in the process."
