best advice I can give is for you to try trusting your doc, to give it a go, but keep communication with your doc open, notify him/her right away if you feel worse, or cannot deal with specific side effects.

ive been on it, it worked for awhile but I was on a really low dose.
I was on it for ages before it stopped working and my sister, who started it the same time as me is still on hers and it still works.
Give it a try, and keep the communication up with your doctors.
Life can be beautiful if you let it.
Step back, breathe and take it in
I was on it for a few months and as far as I could see it did nothing for me - was then switched onto another - and I'm still guessing whether that's having any effect! But everyone has a different response - and I know others who have had a very positive response to prozac - the key is to trust your doctor and give it a go but keep the communication going and let them know how you feel - I am always amazed at how many alternative drugs there are out there!
I've been on it but I never stuck to taking it how I should and often took too much or not at all.
However I do believe it worked. Which is odd. But still, yes it was fine for me.
Good luck xx
Hi Hun as a doctor with depression and BPD who has taken prozac my best advice is Prozac is a complicated medication to take, because it does work for some and does over the short term make people worse because it increase the underlying feeling you have. However it takes upto 14 days to work and you will need to monitor how you feel whilst you take it, because the complex structure of your brain's pathway are affected. Which may lead to loss of sexual sensation, your ability to sleep and hyper behaviour over the short term. But the longer term benefits are worth it. But please don't believe it's a panacea, there may be times when your complex depression problems may return especially if there are dramatic events in your life.
I've talked to some people who say Prozac has been really good for them and others who had no benefits. It just depends on them. I'm on it and don't think it does much for me, but I have started to notice a drop in my mood when I forget to take it for a few days.
Also, remember that medication isn't a cure-all. It can feel like it's just making you numb. But medication is only really to help you stabilise enough to deal witht things through therapy.
It takes up to 6 weeks for it to start working completely...and you might have a few side effects at the start.
Give it a go and make sure you keep in contact with your prescribing doctor.
I'll be honest with you here. I was on prozac for 5 years (a long time, I know) and in the beginning it was amazing. It really helped the way I was feeling and made things clearer for me. However, I also lost most of my hair, gained a truck-load of weight and developed acne. These are just some of the side effects that I began to develop, but you need to know that these will not necessarily affect everyone.
As everyone has been saying, it's best to trust your doc if this is what they think is best for you, and keep an eye on your mood and body to see what happens. If any side effects you get are worse than the benefits mood-wise, then you should stop, but you might find that it is perfect for you and only has positive effects.
Good luck with whatever you decide xx
No matter what, no matter when, no matter why, no matter how - it will always heal.
Prozac was the best med i was put on, (for me) but the doctors were worried it made me to numb to the outside world, and my emotions, I was always okay even when I shouldn't be. So the optimum med for you may not always be optimum for your health. I got a few side effects, but nothing major. Just see how it goes and how it works for you. Talk to your doctor about it more if you want to know more, since he'll know your medical history well enough to have some insight as to how it helped you.
Thankyou, everyone one who replyed. I think im on my 3rd day of t dont really feel much different like people said i just feel numb and space out alot. I dont get as emotional, but i find at the mo im snapping at everyone. I dunno if thats the meds or its just me, but i feel like i dont want to take them any more, this sounds weird but in a way i dont want to get better. im just a weirdo.
Thanks guys 13 replys is the most ive ever got on here im like weeeeee. woop woop.

Prozac has helped me, the effects don't start immediately, it's a gradual thing, it didn't make a significant difference until maybe 5 months after i started x
I wanna stay inside all day
I want the world to go away
I was put on prozac 1st...in liquid form...I had to have it through a syringe...kinda' strange but hey. The Phycologist (sp?!?) didn't even tell me it was prozac. I think he said I am going to give you some medicine to make you feel happier or something...didn;t even say it was an anti-depressant...I am not 3!! grrr. (sorry that was a rant...I'm sure I had summit useful to say).
Oh yes...I didn't work for me but it may work for you. My advice is to ask the doc about the possible side effects beforehand. It gave me bad dreams and made me really nervous and anxious...tearful etc. and i just think it't a lot easier to handle if you know why. And my 2nd piece of advice is to tell your dic if you don;t think it is working cos they change it for you and what not. I couldn't sleep so he gave me one with a sedative in. So if you try to be open about what works and doesn't then hopefully in the end you'll get what works for you. xxxxxx
this sounds weird but in a way i dont want to get better. im just a weirdo.
You're not a weirdo at all. It's perfectly understandable to not want to get better. I, myself, feel like that. But you've made a big step taking the prozac and I think it's worth just keeping up with it and waiting to see how it helps, 'cause like others have said, it does take time.
Take care of yourself and keep us updated on how you're doing.
