SI Question - What's happened! Kinda urgent.

I cut eariler the top of my arm, and i just happened to look down and my lower arm is twice the size of my other arm and all the scars on it have gone dark purple/black. What's happened?! Bit worried as this hasn't happened before. Advice anyone? Please.

Can you PM me a picture? It's ok to do this because I asked you to, I promise.

Well, swelling like that isn't normal, and it needs to get checked out sooner rather than later. You need to call your GP as soon as they open and try and get in with them today.

If you get red streaks on your arm, your hand turns dusky-bluish, your hand starts tingling or is numb you need to go to A&E immediately.

Sounds like a major infection or allergic reaction or something! You should really go to the hospital. Before it gets any worse. It is truly urgent.

I changed the dressing and i think the swelling has gone down a bit maybe. I don't understand its not even bad, not gaping or anything and it's not that deep, just my whole are is tender and sore. Do i really need to go to a & e? I don't wanna be wasting anyones time! I dunno, maybe i'm just trying to get out of having to tell someone, that just seems really scary. :S

I really would advise you go to A&E. I've not seen the pic but from your description, especially as you said your hands been tingly it would really be a good idea. For various reasons sometimes cuts may not gape as much as you'd expect for their depth and it may be that you and even if it is not gaping, the symptoms that you have, regardless of the depth/ appearance of your cuts show that you need them looking at. Have you got a friend who you could ring and see if they can give you a lift there; tell your parents you are sleeping at their house tonight or something? If you can't go tonight I'd definately suggest you go tomorrow or at least ring your surgery first thing in the morning and ask for an urgent/ emergency appointment. If you ask for one of them you will get one for the same day especially if you ring first thing. Though, I really think it is a good idea for you to go ASAP.

And, I can understand how hard it is to tell your parents which is why I'm suggesting the friend option so don't worry about it, my parents don't know about my SH and the very thought of them finding out terrifies me.

Hi, sorry i havn't replied been having a really rough time so no i'm not really ok, just trying to get though the rest of the day without doing anything stupid. As for the arm well *shrugs* I havn't had it looked at yet, don't think it's as bad as it was my fingers are not tinglying anymore. So i didn't make an appointment to see my GP,his morning didn't want to course any hassle for anyone or waste anyones time. My arm is still a bit swollow though i just hope it's going to be ok. I feel so stupid for not even being able to manage to leave the house and get it looked at, but no matter how much i tryed i couldn't find the bottle to get it looked at i'm so pathetic i can't believe i'm even incapable of even doing that. Feel terrible and like i was wasting all of your time by not taking your advice, but i just couldn't do it. So sorry for wasting your time, i know next time not to say anything i think it's best that way for eveyone.

Thx for all the advice and surport everyone. *sends hugs to u all*
