Triggering (SI/Suicide) - Do I have any right to feel like this?

I feel so guilty...

Bad stuff has happened to me,

But not really bad...

Not SA or anything like that...

So do I have any right to have depression, cut myself and feel suicidal?

Or am I just one of the lucky ones who has no right to feel the way I do?

Sorry I know this is sort of a strange post... =(

There is no "do i have a right to feel" any way. How we handle life is based on our experiences and outlook. Some people get through some pretty horrible things without feeling this bad. It isnt up to anyone to judge how you should feel. No one else lives in your head, no one else knows how you see the world or yourself in that world.

on a personal note i do have a breif history with SA but i do not remember it, my life is now pretty good on the outside but i still feel horrible, not because of what has happened but because of how i see myself and the world around me. It all depends on what is in your head, not what people can see.

hope this helps a bit. my pm box is always open.

*HUGS*

Its an illness. No one chooses to get ill! It doesnt matter what the triggers were, the fact that they have made you become ill and feel the way you do indicates that they are serious for you and need dealing with.

Different people deal with things in different ways. There will be people who have suffered SA who dont experience mental health problems. Equally there will be people who have lived perfect silver spoon fed lives who will become ill. The illness chooses you, you do not choose the illness. So you have nothing to feel guilty about.

Bad stuff of any kind can have an effect on you. I wasn't overtly sexually abused, but suffer intensely from the emotional abuse, emotional neglect and bullying that I went through.
Depression can be a kind of defence mechanism against the pain of loss -- and part of that loss can be not having had a stable or fully nurturing upbringing. One of the typical reactions to not feeling wanted, for example, can be depression and suicidal feelings.

Sometimes when you're depressed, you feel guilty. Even if you haven't done anything that should make you feel guilty. Don't worry about it. It'll be alright. *hugs*

I know how you feel there. But a lot of it can be chemical, the way you think and handle things, and as well as enviromental factors.

Sometimes we need reassurance that others understand too. You're not stupid and you did nothing wrong. ((gentle hug)) How would you describe the answer?

You have no reason to feel stupid. I just gave someone else advice on a problem that I have, yet I can't seem to do that for myself. Sometimes we just need someone else to tell us, even if we already know the answer.
Feel better soon.
