Triggering (SI/OD) - Well....

I went to see my doctor yesterday, AGAIN (poor doctor, I swear he sees me more than anybody else!) because I felt suicidal and wanted to see if he could change my meds.

He changed me from fluoxetine to citalopram, and said to start taking it the next morning (which was today). But I didn't, because I'm really unsure about it.

Is anyone on citalopram (or however you spell it, it's called Celexa I think) here?

Would it be possible for you to tell me the side effects or anything?

Also he referred me to a counselling service, but it's going to take MONTHS for me to see anybody. Which sucks, to be honest. I've been wondering about something called HUMAN GIVENS COUNSELLING (I think it's only available in the UK)... has anyone had counselling sessions with these people before??

This is the website for Human Givens -

http://hgi.org.uk

Thanks in advance.

I've never been on this drug but I googled the side effects for you;
effects: fatigue, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased sweating (hyperhidrosis), trembling, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances, insomnia, cardiac arrhythmia, blood pressure changes, nausea and/or vomiting, diarrhea, heightened anorgasmia in females, impotence and ejaculatory problems in males. In rare cases (around over 1% of cases), some allergic reactions, convulsions, mood changes, anxiety and confusion have been reported. Also sedation may be present during treatment of citalopram. If this occurs it is advisable to take the dose at bedtime instead of in the morning.

Sorry lol, that sounds like such a horrible scary list to give to you
but I think there is a good chance that you won't get any side effects or if you do it would only be one or two
But I do know that you have to give the drugs a few weeks to kick in properly,

Also I'm sorry to hear that you have to wait so long for councilling
I had to wait 3 months to see somebody , in the meanwhile I did try some self help books, maybe they could help a little bit in the meanwhile while you wait for the councilling

sorry am rubbish at advice !

i just got taken of citalopram cos of the side effects, main side effects i got were extreme sweating and feeling like i was on fire, dry mouth, upset tummy and was very sick. had lost about 9pounds in 5/6 days.

HOWEVER, things work differently for each of us so try not to get bogged down with it. its worth giving it ago cos it may really help you, but you wont know till you try

xx

i felt a bit sick on citalopram but to be honest, nothing else worrying. i didn't stay on it long enough for it to work because i'm not very med-compliant, but i don't remember anything bad about it. xxx

Just wanted to say, different medications work differently for individuals, so dont read too much into what other peoople say about the side effects they have experienced because it doesnt mean you will get the same ones! The best thing to do is try it, give it a good go because it can sometimes take a while for your body to adjust and it to kick in and keep in regular contact with your doctor so if there are any adverse effects they can intervene.

I dont know anything about the counselling thing but I think if you're open minded about it and if you think it could help you, anything is worth a different to try and make you feel better.
