Becoming depressed again...

You may have noticed my thread last week about failing my driving test, if not then I basically failed it for the 3rd time and was devastated(sp?).

I have acess to a drop in by a charity who works with young people with mental health issues. So have spent today and yesturday there, and also last Thursday. I have fallen back into a sort of depressive episiode, pervious to my test I was relatively confident, just having a couple of bad days here and there, but managing to regain control of my thoughts eventually. Yes I still self harmed now and again, but I was still improved.

Now since I failed I am really low, cutting almost every day again. I know that I have felt worse before but it doesn't matter, I still feel like **** now. The workers at the drop in, have all noticed that I feel ****, along with the other young people. One of them took me through and suggested I go to the 'self esteem group' next month, which I did end up putting my name down for, so obviously they had a conversation about it and thought it was a good idea. I just feel so low and crushed. Also Fathers Day at the weekend, emails from companies offering great Fathers Day presents flooded my inbox, just reminding me that my Father doesn't give a **** any more about me, that I don't have a daddy that loves me. But there is an awful lot of confussing things in my past to do with my dad so the remider brings up a lot of strong feelings, again making me feel really low. I had to play at the awards evening at my old school (I left in December/November, but was still allowed to play with the groups and bands I was in cause I felt very guilty leaving them and also didn't want to leave school completely so was lucky for such an arrangement) any ways playing at the awards evening just reminded me of how out of place I am with what was my year group, how much of a loner I was before I left, that I didn't have many friends at all, real friends that I would go up the town with etc...Also that was really the end of school, nothing any more...I really have to grow up now, that scares the **** out of me!

I am struggling to sleep and I am struggling to eat any 'proper' food, my wrists are sore, somthing like repetitive strain but over the past few years I have noticed that they only get really bad when I am feeling really low and depressed.

I am bursting into tears about 5 times a day, and have done since last Wednesday (day I failed). I have a one to one with someone from the Charity I mentioned before in a few days, but it might just be in like a coffee place cause thats where the past few have been...concidering most of what I was saying was positive. So might manage to say some stuff...just don't know. The problem is I have to get the train or bus to go through to the drop in and at the moment am stapped for cash so can't go through as often as I need now. I am just feeling low, lower than I have since I left school I think...and it isn't budging....I was told by my previous councillor my depression was cyclical(sp?) maybe this is just the point where I am depressed again and just have to try and get through it, maybe the next few days, weeks, months, I don't know. I'm just lost...I can't really do this again....but it looks like I have to, but maybe this time I won't manage to hold on...

Sorry, ended up longer than I thought it would, if it makes any sence comments and hugs would be appreciated, just feeling so alone right now, and about to cry again I'm just such a pathetic waste of space....

Sorry Devil x x

From someone who has 'recurring' depression, which is similar to cyclical, I guess, I would say that hold on in there, this wave will pass. You've had some disappointments, and sound like a big sense of loss flooding you right now. So its understandable that you'll be feeling down and despondent for a while.
Its good that you have the drop-in to go to, it sounds like you have some good support there. The Self Esteem group sounds like it could really help you. Could you tell someone at the dropin about your financial struggles? Maybe they could help with your transport fares for a while. Its worth asking....

Remember that failing your driving test doesn't make you a failure. Taking some time out from study, ditto. Its great that you're getting some help. I only wish similiar support had been available when I was your age.

I can also understand having strong feelings connected with fathers.

It sounds like you're having a pretty tough time, and I'm sorry about that. I think it's good that you recognise that you're getting depressed again, it sounds like you have alot of people in place to support you, have you spoke to them about it? Have you spoken to a GP or a doctor aswell?

Look after yourseld, eat healthily, do some excersise, get a few good nights sleep and drink alot of fresh fruit juice, whenever I feel depressed I always pamper myself and eat lots of fruit and veg, I guess feeling healthy (for a few weeks at least lol) makes me feel a bit better.

this is the first day of my life
I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you
But now I don’t care I could go anywhere with you
And I’d probably be happy

God I know how you feel. You have done the right thing using your drop in and posting on here. Its great that you can recognise your depressed and try to get help. Keep posting - keep talking.

Try to see little positives. Each hour when you want to harm but don't is a triumph and if you do it, just re set the clock and start trying not to again.

Make yourself go out. A walk however much you don't fancy it will do you so much good. Aim to go somewhere at least once a day.

Allow yourself a treat when you avoid cutting, or get out.

What you are feeling is ok. It will pass and things will be good again

Hugs xxx

This too will pass

Thank you for your replies.

Still not feeling great at the moment. Had a one to one on Thursday, but we really just talked about other things, nothing important, he asked if I had been cutting because of the fail and that was about it really. Guess it helped just getting to have a chat with someone who knew I was feeling ****...

Its just my brother and I now in the house cause my mum and her partner are away on holiday so that gives me a bit of a break...except my Gran will come up fussing over me! lol.

Got work at the weekend...plus Dr Who is on...

Tried to plan my week next week, so going to be through at the drop in at least twice, cause there is things I am booked in to do after so at least I am not going to be staying in all the time...

I am still really low, just trying to get on with things. By night time I am in tears but dono how to stop that......

Was out today shopping at got a top/dress for £1 so that will keep me busy for like 30 mins trying it on etc....

Any way thank you for your replies...needed to let that out cause things aren't great...

Love Devil x

That's great you are keeping busy. Good for you. :)

Grans seem to have that as part of their job description, lol! It sounds like she cares about you, and that's great.

Try and talk with whoever who is around who might understand. I know when I am having down times I do my best to connect with as many supportive people as I can, even if I don't say much, sometimes all it needs is a few words or an understanding look.

Remember also that it's ok to cry, really it is.

Post here as much as you need, and my pm box is always open. Its why I have a link to it in my sig! :)
