Hey I also find it hard to sleep.

I try to make sure I'm fairly active in the day like going for walks, or swimming. I also try not to let myself sleep too late into the day as otherwise I'm wide awake in the night.
Sometimes I have a warm bath, or listen to some music in bed.
For me though the most effective thing is to read before I go to sleep, as I sometimes read until i can't keep my eyes open anymore and then end up drifting off to sleep.
Take care .. can you ask your doctor about a change of meds or discuss that these aren't helping with sleeping?

yea they all sound like good ideas, i always have a hot bath before bed. im not so much into reading but i normally watch abit of tv before i try atempting to sleep.
my doctors currently in the stage of fidiling ( dont think i slept that right) with my meds so its a long and tedious battle.
thanks for the reply :)

What meds do you take? Zopiclone was very effective for me, and I had loads of trouble sleeping. Now I've stopped taking that but take risperidone, which helps me sleep as well.

I'm sure your doc has explained to you about 'sleep hygeine' which is very important as well. Make sure you get up and go to bed at around the same time every day, stay active during the day etc etc. TV might be a bad idea because it keeps your mind active, but I know what it's like to be lying in bed for hours on end with nothing to do...I swapped TV for reading which was helpful I think :)

Anyway, hope your problem gets sorted out eventually! Your doc sounds very helpful, so just keep at it and keep your chin up :) x

HI

I can totally relate to what your saying . Ive been on and off sleeping tablets for the past 6 months ( zopiclone and temazepam ) and they work great while im taking them but the minute i stop i cant sleep again !! Its like a vicious circle . At the moment im refusing to take anything so am getting about 3-4 hours sleep at the most. But im hoping eventually my body will snap out of it . Im also doing the whole sleep hygiene thing with the help of my physio

hope you get things sorted
x

The suggestions so far are all good for helping you get to sleep.

Like glitter said, what meds are you on at the moment?

Meds-wise, I have a lot of trouble sleeping and am on 600mg Seroquel (an antipsychotic) and 10mg Valium, I find that these work for me. I found these through a lot of trial and error though, so be patient, talk to your doctor and I really hope that you find something to help =)

Hey,

I have so much trouble sleeping that i dread Night time. I am also on sedating meds which dont help. Feels like i have tried a million sleeping pills like zopiclone and temazepam.
I have been having trouble since i first got diagnosed about five years ago. I currently take Nitrazepam, a couple nights a week which hepls. I also found Lormetazepam helpful (but it is too expensive where i live).

I am currently trialing this sleep rescheduling thing. It seems to help. If you want more info on it PM me.

thanks everyone for your replys, i do try my best with the sleep hygiene.
for sleep im on seroquel, temazepam and valium, but none of them are working, my bodys gotten to used to the seroquel and temaz never did anything for me. ive just started the valium but that doesnt seem to be helping either, i just wish there was an easy fix for it all.

Ive heard alot about stilnox but never tried it, does anyone else no about this?

I have trouble with sleeping, I've tried loads of herbal remedies and sleeping tablets but they don't work. It really does suck if you can't sleep, you're tired and depressed the next day...

i thnk alot of people with depression naturally have alot of problems sleeping. im on seroquel for my psychosis but since i have been on it i have found i have slept so much better, as my doctor said i would, as although its an anti-psycotic it is also used to treat manic episodes and to help sleep.i have to say this is a great med for me.
