It would help to know what country you're in (and what state/province if you're in the US or Canada). I know that many US states have a zero-tolerance policy for DUI for drivers under 21, so there would be almost no chance of getting your license back provided that the state has some record of your BAC when you were pulled over. But obviously it's different depending where you live. Some places will erase a DUI if you complete an acceptable alcohol treatment program, and some places will let you drive during certain hours if you can prove it's necessary for work, or that kind of thing, but it's a whole lot less likely that you'll be able to do either of those if you were underage at the time, and since your profile says you're 17, I'm assuming you were.

Everywhere should have a zero tolerance policy.

Sorry, but if you get into a car after you've been drinking then you deserve to lose your licence. I'm sure many members of the site will back me up on that who have lost relatives/nearly been seriously hurt themselves due to people who drink and drive.

Tough luck babyface, I don't know if there is much that can be done, and personally I think you should take this as a lesson. I'm not usually one to preach but I can't stand people who drink and drive, having almost lost my life because of one (who also happened to be my father) so no. No help from me I'm afraid.
You just pray thanks to whoever it is you pray to that no one got hurt while you were driving.

Grow up and take your 'punishment'? At the end if the day what you did was wrong, and so why try and bend the rules for something which could have been potentially life threatening, not only to you but for everyone else who was on the road that night you decided to drive intoxicated. Like Jelly said, everywhere should be a zero tolerance policy.
It's your own fault so deal with it. (y)

I agree, pretty much, with the above statements. While its a shame that your not able to start the job you like, you could have ruined both your life and someone elses even more if something had happened.

Never do it again >_<

As is clear from the above i really don't think you're going to get much sympathy/help about this i'm afraid. What you did was completely irresponsible and as others have said you should just be relived that you didn't injure someone else as a result of your idiocy rather than trying to find a way out of the punishment you deserved.

Be a responsible person (if possible) and accept what you've done and deal with it. Rather than attempting to get out of it. It just makes you a coward and of course, an idiot.

You've gone like a year without it, another year won't hurt. Besides, 2 years is nothing. Anyone who drinks and drives should have their license taken off them for longer.

I have no sympathy for people who drive under the influence because back in high school a good friend of mine lost her brother to a drink driver.

Learn from it, and then if you have any sense don't ever do it again

Last March, I was almost killed by a drunk driver. It was only the fact that my parents could afford to buy me a decent car that meant that I didn't get both of my legs broken, at the minimum.

Oh, and also, I have a twisted pelvis and loads of back/knee problems from when a drunk idiot crashed into my mums car when I was 8.

IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO DRINK YOU CAN AFFORD A ****ING TAXI.

&& then buffy staked edward. the end.

Were these other people the same age as you, or above the legal drinking age? How they punished other people for the same crime doesn't directly effect your own appeal (as in "I should get the same punishment as these other people" won't work) because there are a lot of factors that are taken into account, but it'll help me get a sense of what the punishments are like in your area.

About the point that you 'got what you deserve' or whatever... I completely agree that driving under the influence is extremely irresponsible and all, but I don't believe it's right to make you put your career plans on hold for another year for it. You were probably 16 at the time, right? Or if you were 17, you couldn't have been by more than a couple months. And it annoys me to no end that we have such f***ed up drug/alcohol policies in this country (and while Canada is considerably less bad, it's the same basic approach), and then punish young people so harshly for making bad choices.

Yes, you did make a bad decision, but you were a teenager, and adolescence is about making mistakes while there's still someone there to protect you. Someone should have been there to take your car keys away. You should have been able to get a ride home from your parents, no questions asked, even late at night. If you were at a friend's house, you should have been able to sleep here (and someone should have stopped you from leaving), and if you were someplace more public, you shouldn't have been served alcohol at all.

And honestly, if the risk of dying in a car crash didn't deter you from drinking and driving, how is the risk of having your license suspended supposed to help?

I very much hope that you've learned your lesson and will never drink and drive again. It's dangerous and irresponsible, and extremely inconsiderate (to put it mildly, mainly because I can't think of a stronger word for it). But I also don't think you should you be prevented from getting the job you want because of one bad choice you made as a teenager, and with all the criticism you've been getting on here, I just wanted to say that I do support your trying to arrange to be able to drive to/from work (no matter how much my saying that might piss people off).

Firstly, if the young people weren't punished so harshly then they'd just go and do it again and again until someone got killed. The bottom line is that if you want to drive then you shouldn't drink beforehand. It's not exactly a difficult concept to understand. If you'd have killed someone then you would have had to put your career plans on hold for a hell of a lot longer while you were behind bars so you should just be grateful for getting off so lightly.

The point about 'if the risk of dying in a car crash didn't deter you from drinking and driving, how is the risk of having your license suspended supposed to help?' is a little weak in my opinion. Nearly every person lives with the 'it won't happen to me' thoughts in their heads. Everyone knows smoking causes cancer but an awful lot of smokers continue to smoke because they think they'll evade cancer. It's the same with drink driving.. 'oh i'm not THAT drunk / i'm a good driver / I'll drive slowly/ There's nothing on the roads. IT WON'T HAPPEN TO ME.' And usually no, it won't, but it's not worth the risk especially when it's not just yourself you're endangering. A two year ban is a joke considering a driver CAN (not will) be charged for manslaughter if they kill someone who steps out in front of the car without looking. Drink driving is intentional.

I think that having your liscence suspended was just tbh. Drink driving is the stupidest thing in existance IMO, and tbh you deserve your punishment. I just hope that no one was hurt by you whilst you were behind the wheel.
just wait a few years to start your army career, the forces arent going anywhere are they?

Right, cause it's not like people ever think they won't be pulled over, or they won't be caught. I always assume I won't be pulled over for speeding, because I usually pay attention for any cops that might be around, even though I did get pulled over once, and obviously there's less at stake there, but it's the same idea. Also, you'll only be pulled over for a DUI in the first place because your driving gives it away, and if you think you're not too drunk to drive, you're probably also going to think you're not too drunk to still appear sober.

And when was the last time you heard a campaign to prevent drunk driving that focused on the risk of having your license suspended rather than the risk of dying or killing someone?
