I'm turning 17 in August and have been looking around for a good first car.... will be applying for my provisional todayish and will hopefully be getting lessons starting from my Birthday all through the summer... I was just wonderin gwhat does the RYL population drive? And recommendations? I was looking at a Vauxhall Corsa as they're nice and cheap on the insurance, or maybe a Peugeot 206.....
Dont know cars at all being a girl or just me anyway i love really old cars a betle or a Ka
Don't walk behine me I might got you lost!
Don't walk in front of me I may not follow you!
Don't walk beside me the path is to small!
All we can do is walk our own paths, remember your not alone because we are all walking our own paths together!
I drive a Ford KA because it's small, easy to park, and cheap to run. When I was looking round, I found that Peugeots tended to be more expensive to insure as they are classed as 'sporty' by some companies and therefore higher risk. Corsas are good though :)
but something small and cheap. i wouldn't buy something new-ish becuiase if it gets bumps etc you'll be devastated. and yeah *thats all the advice she has*
also, Peugeot 206 ... clutch isn't too clever, apparently ;)

From the saftey point of view, KAs are rubbish. The slighest impact and it'll be written off. There's nothing inbetween the two door pannels and basically, it's a pile of junk! I refuse to get in them. I know it's old and boring, but especailly when you're learning, you really need a safe car - you could be the best driver in the world but you won't have the experience of what to do when you skid, or if someone comes over the lines towards you, or pulls out in front of you - those things can only be learnt over time.

I had a Yaris for my first car, and, no exaggeration, it saved my life. March last year I was driving round country roads to go to my piano lesson, when a drunk driver in a van came round the bend and didn't turn. Wrote off a two year old yaris, but that car saved my life. If i'd've been in a KA or an older car I would have had two broken legs MINIMUM.
Get the newest car you can afford. If you have to pay for it, talk to your parents and see if they can match what you save up, or half of what you save up. If your parents are buying it, get a job and get some more money for a better car. Okay, it is unlikely that you'll have a crash, but better safe than dead.
peugeots have a higher segmet than a ka or corsa so thats you its more for insurance.
i wouldnt buy a 206 my mum had one and it was just trouble the whole 3years we had it.

My first car was a mini. Then i had Golf GTi's, then a Cupra Sport thing and now an old and rusting BMW.
you need to get something that looks funky and is econimical! Also something cheap to insure!!!! I think the KA is group 2 which is the cheapest bracket.
You can look on Parkers.com for used car prices and they also give you expert opinion and insurance grouping too!!!

My first car was a 3 year old punto, i now have a new clio (not the old shitty shape- the newer version) and i love it. I've always wanted a 206 CC but the insurance is rediculous for me as iv only been driving a year.
Mine's a Ford Fiesta. It's quite a good little car but as I've lost my license for a while (due to medical reasons) I might be selling it coz I want a newer car with power steering!
Bah, I should be driving in the next few months.
I've started to look at cars but it's going to be hard to afford one.
The cheapest insurance i've found is £1700.
No car is cheap to insure!
Chels.. your Yaris story makes me feel extra safe in my yaris now :)
My Dad was insistant on me getting a really safe car, and the yaris was recommended for that.
It's also pretttyyy, and small, and nice. So you should get a Yaris. They're the best. I also got mine amazingly cheap for what it is, which was good too.

My boyfriend keeps saying he's going to get his provisional.
He claims that he's already a decent driver.
I really would not trust him with a car.
Teenage males with cars sounds like a terrible idea to me!
On the other hand : My cousin got a Clio for his 17th which seems to be rather decent.
Other people I know have a Yaris and a Polo.
Sept my friend's Yaris got stolen...which I find highly amusing.
