Driving under-water

Yeah, this thread isn't as cool as it sounds, just to warn you :)

I passed my driving test in late April, but being as my car is at home and I am at uni, I didn't get a chance to drive it until I came home yesterday. So today, very excited, I got into the car and pootled into Oxford (it's about half an hours drive from where I live).

I picked the worst. possible. day. to go driving on my own for the first time.
It started raining.
Then raining more.
Then raining even more.

The roads started to fill up, but I figured I'd do a few hours of shopping, come back, and the ground would've had a chance to absorb the water.

Nope.

I drove through at least five road-covering floods on the way back from Oxford. Three roads I was supposed to drive on were closed. I was going about 30 MPH on a dual carriageway, because you had to manouvre your way through the huge puddles.

Local news article.

It was so much fun! Seriously. It was really exciting - and good news, I didn't ruin the car!
Apparently, my Daddy was also floating his kayaks in our garden.

I love rain!
:)

At least youve had the worst possible experiances early on.

I know quite a few people who have passed thier test and its scary being in the same car as them.

When we had one of the floods up here I was driving to a shopping centre. We only had to turn around once on the way there because of the floods but on the way back there was only 1 road (out of loads) that was open and the police we on that one directing people through the patch of the road that had the shallowest water. It wasn't fun as it took ages, the traffic was terrible and the water that was running on the road had a pretty fast current which didn't really affect driving through it but looked a bit scary beforehand.

With demons dancing off mirror images reflecting all that you wanted.
So far from perfect, onward we will strive.
Take it for what it's worth, this truth that you've realized.
You're not who you thought you were, it's time to see the other side of what you have become.

Congrats on passing your driving test!

I never heard the word "pootled" before. With all the puddles I suppose that made you a puddle pootler. A very memorable first trip all in all - thread still sounds cool then .
