Could i be an alcoholic? (please help, i need adivce)
My ex boyfriend says im an alcoholic because im not happy until im totally wasted, and i like to get wrecked. Im also count down how long it will be until i can get drunk again. When i stop drinking i cant stop, people have to stop me until i collapse, i had antibiotics for 2 weeks and i felt so miserable that i couldnt drink, i even stoped taking them so i could go out and get wasted.
Do i have a problem?

Hi Emma :)
I'm Quautia, and I'm an alcoholic. I was similar to you in a lot of ways, I always drank to oblivion and was never happy being without alcohol. Life revolved around drinking, and it was never just one drink.
The fact that you are posting here seems to suggest that it is a problem for you.
The only thing that matters is wether you think you have a problem. I know my drinking didn't make me happy. I knew for a long time that I had a problem, but I was too scared to make the changes I needed to. It took me a few years to really accept that I was an alcoholic.
There are a few options open to you if you think you have a problem. There is AA (not for everyone, but works for me), which is an abstinence based program. Your GP will know the services in your area, usually there are local alcohol counsellors. There are also some controlled drinking support type things, but I'm not familiar with them.
Hope this helps xx

i agree
if you cant control alchohol binges or be happy without a drink you have a problem. can you go to the doc and mention it? is it a way of dulling the pain or giving you confidence? can you work out what exactly it is about drinking that appeals to you. only take out a small amount of cash and tell people not to buy you drinks. there's a lot of support available for alcoholism- see your doc and get some help.
take care
*hugs*

Hi,
I've been sober for 13 years. When things get bad I think about drinking.
I think rather that just tell you if you are or not an alcoholic, I'll suggest going to the Alcoholics Anonymous web site and take one of their little quizzes. That way you can decide for yourself. Doing that does not commit you to going to AA or anything, it is just a way for you to look at the problem.
I know there are other programs out there besides AA.
If you want to talk please PM me. Being on holiday and on a road trip means I may not check in every day. I will do my best though and I'm very contientious about checking messages.
encouraging helpful hugs.

My husband is my best friend.
In forgiving others, we are not exonerating them. They may not deserve exoneration. Rather, in forgiving others we are giving up our anger over the fact that what happened is not what "should" have happened or that our life is not the way it "should" have been.

I really hate the term "alcoholic", as it seems to instantly pigeon hole people. However the important thing is that you are thinking that your drinking is a problem for you and others around you.
I don't particulary like the AA approach but that could be an easily accessible starting point and it works for many I know. Most areas now have Community Alcohol Teams which can be accessed by your GP or maybe Google it for your area and give them a call.

my opinion is that if your life revolves around alcohol, you have a problem you should probably look into. i'm definitely not an alcoholic, but if i was of age, i think i might be (just since i could buy it any time i please). i have stopped drinking, but when i did i would think about when i could get drunk next. me and my friend would look all over for someone to provide us alcohol. while i controlled it, just cause i was on meds, i think i wouldn't have if i wasn't. so it's kind of the same thing, just i was lucky enough not to have access to it all the time. anyway that's my opinion. you can always go to a counselor and ask their opinion too and try AA.
