Santa Claus?

How, when you have decided that a child has reached a suitable age, do you tell them that Santa isn't real?

Even as the stone of the fruit must break
that its heart may stand in the sun,
so must you know pain.

There are only two ways in which one can live their life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is.

i was never told, kinda work it out myself very early but we still joke about it now (i still get a stocking at 24 hehe) they say stuff like better go to bed soon cos santa needs to visit.

i prob wouldnt bring it up unless you thought they had an inkling or had asked you about it, cos it might be too sad for them ??? idk

xx

I'm nearly 22 and I still expect a present at Christmas with "love from Santa and Rudolph.
And I get a little package of magic to put out in the garden so Santa knows where to come.

Don't go ruining the magic now.

i'm 20 and i didnt get a stocking this year because i didnt want one. i felt i had too many silly little bits and pieces. but my mum likes doing stocking so i think they will be re-instated.

I dont think i ever belived in santa but i did used to leave out the mince pie and carrot.

Who was it who posted the long scientific proof that santa doesnt exist. Someone, somehwere had works out santas weight, how much he would gain by each child leaving a glass of milk and a cookie, how fast he would have to travel to get round the world and so on. it was hillarious.

I would never tell a kid that Santa isn't real.
One of the people I coach with who says if the kids aren't good they'll tell Santa they are bad:(
I love Santa. I still "pretend" that Santa is real :)

just wondering why you want to tell your child this. i am a little ignorant i guess. i just figuire they will be ready to know this when they decide that themselves.

I would wait for them to figure it out themselves. I think the idea of Santa, a guy always watching you and rewarding you for good behaviour and stuff like that is really nice. I would never tell a child Santa didn't exist because Christmas' when you believed in him were always the best. Why ruin that magic?

Some children go on believing it for too long and then they get teased when their friends find out and then they get upset cos people are telling them "god you're so stupid how could you still believe that" etc etc. so i think its just better to sort it out with them yourself.

i never really had christmas so i don't feel any of the sentimentality.

and im not talking about young children cos that would just be mean. but its got to happen sometime. there's a difference between pretending he's real and actually believing it.

i guess i just have to hope they will figure it out themselves.

Honestly?? We let her figure it out on her own. To come to US, rather than the other way around.

They are only kids for such a short time, let them hold the good things as long as they can.

Least that's how we felt.

Santa is real... though he's a stingy bastard and makes my fiance and me share presents...

I think most kids figure it out themselves and then come to you... or don't come to you so they keep getting presents! lol
