Medication Question - Diazepam..

Sorry to have posted twice in one day.

I was just wondering what the maximum dosage of diazepam is?
I've been given diazepam again (due to my severe lack of sleep), and the max dosage i was originally told to take was 2 5mg tablets. However, this isn't going to work, as last time i took 10mg (well the last 3/4 times) they didn't help at all.

I did tell the doctor on the phone that it didn't help but she still prescribed me the same dosage, so i am taking it upon myself to up my dosage slightly.
I'm not talking about overdosing, i simply NEED a good nights sleep.
Would 15mg help anymore than 10mg?
I'm a big girl..5'10'' and "overweight", so it's not going to harm me in anyway! I just need to sleep properly tonight.

Fingers crossed i get a quick reply before bed!
Cheers in advance.

Also..rather than making another post (which i don't wish to do), is there a first aider i could possibly message in regards to a very personal "womans" problem?
It's playing on my mind quite a lot, slightly too self concious to go to a doctor about it..so advice would be very much appreciated.
Cheers.
x

You should really only take what your doctor prescribes. They have reasons for this especially as things like diazepam have strong side effects and you can become dependent on it VERY easily. Talk to the doctor who prescribed it or if you are weary of discussing it with them get an appointment with another doctor.

dont take more than the doctor reccommends.
i Od'ed on it twice yesterday and you will not function properly afterwards, it seriously messed with your head. you become dissociated and lose large parts of short term memory. its quite scary.

Well i took 4 last night, and i'm only meant to take 2, and it had no effect on me whatsoever, which is a massive dissapointment :/

Is there any other medication that anyone knows of, for sleeping? That's stronger than diazepam?

see if you could take some lorazepam 2mg plus some zopiclone up to 15mg. if still bad see if you could take some anti-psychotic for a few days, olanzepine for example. i wouldn't start overdosing on diazepam. its possible it just doesnt work for you, or may be you have taken it for too long. as with any benzos, if you are given them for too long they wont have a good effect.

have a chat with your gp.

i personally have severe sleep disorder myself, usually getting 2/3hrs a night for days on end, sometimes no sleep, just dozing and waking up with a jolt over and over.
anyways, when i cant take it anymore i get given the tranquillisers but at the moment i am taking a more natural suplement MELATONIN. it works really well and i feel happy because its not toxic to your body :) In england you csn buy it over the counter for a ridiculous ammount of money (£50+) but i get it on prescrption so its free. I did have to be referred to a sleep specialist for this though.

take care x

I had temazepam for a while, I found it either worked brilliantly or made the problem worse, it was very touch and go.

But I actually found valerian root works very well, and since it's herbal, it's not as damaging as these chemicals. You can get them at Holland & Barrett, it's like a fiver for 100 caps.

Wake me up before I change again
Remind me the story that I won't get insane
Tell me why it's always the same
Explain me the reason why I'm so much in pain.

I would definately advice not to take more than the prescribed amount. Also, there are different sleeping pills so just ask your doctor see what they think.

Ok, I'm sorry everyone but I'm going to have to lock this thread. Due to the nature of the questions it's going to be very difficult to ensure that the advice given here is in the best interest of the OP.

As Animad has said, it is not a good idea to take more then the dose your doctor has perscirbed you. If you don't believe that dose will work you need to speak with your doctor and see what they feel is appropriate.

There are many other medications out there for sleep, and you may ask your doctor if they feel another medication would be better for you. For long term use things like daizepam, lorazepam, clonazepam, or temazepam are not a good idea due to the risk of dependency. All these medications are in a similar "family" of meds, and if one doesn't help you it is unlikely that another in this same family will give you long term relief from your sleeping problems.

The best thing for you to do will be to speak with your doctor and see about an alternative medication, and in the mean time, stick with the dose your doctor gave you.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
