Possibly Triggering - Counting or not counting?
I was just thinking today and was wondering, which do you prefer?
counting the days you have been selfharm free, or just not counting...
*not really sure how to phrase this*
so is counting better for you or not

I'm not sure to be honest. I find that sometimes I go days without realising I've gone days and sometimes I count the days that I've been trying to stop and find it really difficult so yeah; it's hard to say.

i make a note of the last date when i get a few days in and when i feel like ive gone a long way i look at the date and see how long i made it. so im not directly counting to begin with but i can when i think ive got far enough that it feels like an achievement.

I personally didn't count because for me if i'd gone X number of days and then SH'd i would have felt worse than if i just hadn't thought about it.

I count because I'm a number freak.
So if it's an even number of days, I can't cut under any circumstances which helps.
|
If we fall, we don't need self recrimination or blame or anger - we need a reawakening of our intention and a willingness to re-commit, to be whole hearted once again.

Not count. I've tried to count, and it only made me even more aware of my SI, and sometimes made me SI when I hadnt really thought about it all day.

I count months, which are just bigger units of days I guess. It's really helped me focus on recovery. Like a "I've already gone almost 5 months, why do it now?" sorta thing.

i used to...made me feel good then.
but when i was really ready to start recovering for real, i stopped counting.
i don't know, it stopped working. just didn't seem to matter how long it'd been, more that i take each urge individually. dealing with the problems behind the urges was a lot better way for me to fight them then arguing with myself about how long it'd been.

Me i count for the most part but dont do it till the week mark. Helps me to see i did without Si for one week maybe i can make it the next week without it as well. Also for me is sort of a celebration that so far i am making it especially if it has been a rough week.

I like to count because I can see if i'm beating my previous 'records' it has really helped me to get to 9 months because every day that goes past you can think to yourself "i'm not self harming today and wasting all of those days free that I have already achieved." Once I had made it to 5 months there was no going back for me because that was the longest I had ever been.
