Safe - please reassure me
ok so i know this isnt strictly self harm related but i need reassurance of the medical kind...
so just because i found a lump in my armpit its probably not cancer right? i am still going to see a doctor, but i want to know what else it could be for the mean time because i have an exam monday before i can see a doctor and my mind reallly needs to be put at ease...
so now a description
it looks flat. but its a lump under my skin maybe 2 millmetres under if you can really judge. its about the size of a pea. its not red. i cant see any ingrown hairs. its sore as all firetruck, when i touch it and move my arm. it seemed to appear overnight, but i could be wrong, and it only started hurting this morning. oh and down the side of my breast on that side is tender. its about in the middle of my armpit
so it doesnt have to be cancer, right??? what else could it be??? any suggestions to help put my mind at ease till i can see a doctor???
thanks in advance
Annie

Hey sweetie,
First of all, don't panic! It's good that you're going to the doctors and I wish you lots of luck. Don't quote me on this one but I think most cancerous lumps aren't painful for quite a while, at least that was the case for me! It's also very small which is a good sign because it makes it less likely to be anything sinister and if it is then it'll only be in the early stages. It may well be an enlarged gland or a cyst. Have you had a cold or anything recently?
Wishing you lots of luck xxx

We enjoy warmth because we have been cold. We appreciate light because we have been in the darkness. By the same token, we can experience joy because we have known sadness.

If it is painful it may be an absess, they can form and they are very painful. If it gets larger you should probably go back. This is JUST an idea though as what the heck do I know about health :S

Hey.
There are many differnt causes of lumps in that area. If you have been feeling run down a lot recently, then it could be related to that. There are a lot of glands in the area under your arm pit and when inflammed/swollen they may become painful and feel like a lump.
It could also be something like and absces or a cist. They can either be removed or drained or they may clear up on their own. It is also possible that you may have banged the area.
Stress can make things like this worse, so although its hard try not to panic over it. Deffintley speeak to your GP over it though and let them check you out. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

It could be an infection caused by an ingrown hair (which is really painful and so is the treatment for it) or it could just be a cyst. I've had both and they're harmless.
