marching bands

Just wondering if anyone is/was ever in one? I was in one for 5 years and I'd love to join back but alas I'm too old. It was probably the happiest time of my life. I played trombone but I want to go back in colour guard. So I thought we could talk about them here if anyone wants to.

I was in middle school. I played the clarinet (horribly). It was fun at the time!

I was never in one but I go to a lot of US college football games. I've seen Ohio St and Howard University - they have some of the best here.

I played in one once when I went on work experience with the army last year. Playing piccolo in them is fun!!

Ps. There are members in the band who have their own kids in the band. Quite a few senior members!

Yeah alexi, we did the IMBA competitions every year. We won the all-Irelands every year I was in it. I was in The Phoenix Youth Band if you've heard of them? They're still doing the competitions and ones abroad too.
Seniors members eh? Are there any in the colour guard? And how far is Mullingar from Dublin? I wanted to rejoin my band but they're all like 12 and all in it and I'm 28.

Ahhh OMG cool! Yup Ive definately heard of them! Were winning the all Irelands most years lately in division 1. 93 members this year! One senior member in the colour guard. (all the senior ones left last year after a MASSIVE fight...) Its about a 45 minute drive with practise friday and saturday nights and sunday mornings and sometimes wednesdays as well. Im guessing that youth means theres an age limit?

Wish I would have joined marching band in high school, but it was such a big time commitment...marching band more or less OWNED your summer, and I wasn't sure I wanted that. I regret not joining now, though. I think I would have loved playing my flute in marching band. Or possibly being in the colorguard.

Yeah I really regret leaving mine. I left to do dancing but I wish I'd joined the colour guard instead as the dancing didn't really work out and I could have danced in the colour guard. I have dreams about it all the time and it feels so wonderful but then I wake up and I'm all sad cos it was only a dream.
alexi I'll have a look at that link and have a think. Is there a bus to Mullingar from Dublin? There must be. Oh and good luck with the compeitions!
