cant keep jobs :(
hmm figured i must be a veteran as ancient at nearly 23... hmm feel really old actually, having mad age crisis cos i STILL cant hold down a job, i was always supposed to do well, but i did badly in my A-levels cos i was depressed and since then cant keep a job either. i only just started seeing a therapist cos they said my problems were too complex before (they only had money to treat quick things or something) so ive had 3 extra years of **** to cope with so now i got loads of missed opportunities and failures behind me.
realise im being very negative, but its hard to be any other way, lost my latest job yesterday. i hate being off sick, means life is on hold cos i cant afford to do anything. (still cant drive, for one..)
and i dont really know if anyone understands? i find people claim to, but then they dont seem to have the same trouble keeping work as i do.. i either get dead upset or else my brain kind of freezes and i walk out cos i just cant think.
i dunno... any advice would be welcome tho
Beth

I have a friend who is in a similar situation to you. He calls it a quarterly life crisis. He's unemployed, depressed and when he was employed he had trouble staying in a job. He feels like he's been left behind by his peers who are all in successful jobs/married/whatever. He's only 24, a year older than you.
I think there are people that do understand. I can imagine it being very hard for me to hold down a job - I had a year out between uni and I just couldn't cope with being in a job. I ended up having three or four jobs because I just couldn't manage. I'm kinda dreading graduating next year (I'll be 23 then too) because I'll need to face the prospect of full time work again. That's scary for me.
Perhaps it would be worth seeking some therapy for this? A therapist might be able to help you find ways of coping when you feel unable to work. Just a thought.

I've had a lot of jobs too. I've learned that I'm not a team player and that is what people have wanted in some of the jobs I've had. Iniative is great, so long as it is the context of being a team player.
I finally gave up and started working for myself. It requires plenty of iniative and self discipline. I'm usually able to work if I'm in a bad mood.
My husband and I had expected that I would work, so we are making a go of things on one income.
I understand.

My husband is my best friend.
In forgiving others, we are not exonerating them. They may not deserve exoneration. Rather, in forgiving others we are giving up our anger over the fact that what happened is not what "should" have happened or that our life is not the way it "should" have been.

ooh i'm 23, too!
hi Beth
i'm worth totally crap advice right now
but i can sympathise
i'm not really doing much with jobs right now either.... sort of quit the one i got out of college before i found another and moved back in with my mother and have been temping for the past 6 months.....
actually if you arent working right now and need some money you can work with a temp agency/employment agency
those places are nice because the assignments are short term and you can set your own hours and you dont have contracts or anything so it can all be at your own pace
good luck and keep posting Beth hun
be safe

After two years, three jobs, and alot of temp work, I have finally found myself a job in a wonderful company that Im doing well at. The trouble was that before that, my mind was in such a dark place, working was a major trial for me. And it reflected in my work, and I ended up getting fired twice. After I got fired the second time, I started doing temp work through agencies. So the jobs would range from one day jobs, to a month or so. This helped me to not only get by, but build my experience and confidence. It wasnt easy, but it helped alot. Perhaps this is something to consider trying yourself?
