there are a lot of arty people on ryl..

..and i need some help!
i have to analyse a single artwork piece, a painting, sculpture, or a building, in an exam for my art history class on thursday.
it's supposed to be one i've seen at first hand, at an exhibition.

i've been to both tate's & the v&a a bunch of times, and i can't think of a single painting that has caught my eye off of the top of my head, and i don't have time to visit a gallery before thursday.

so i guess what i'm asking is...
has anyone got a favourite piece that i can analyse?
^.^
preferably if it's been in an exhibition recently.

they aren't going to know if it wasn't me who saw it :P
just name your favourite painting..?

thanksssss.

well, the err, i think it's the Tate in liverpool was exhibiting the weeping woman by picasso recently, it was there last week anyway.
That's pretty cool. I've drawn it before.
=)
EDIT: ooh or 'Heart of Darkness' by cornelia parker, it's amazing, really.

I think the 'crack' in the floor of the tate modern was rather cool and interesting plus it created loads of discussion and debate in the media which you could bring into the discussion as how people respond to work

Ok so it's not exactly in a gallery but Quantum Cloud by Antony Gormley. It's an impressive piece of work on a large scale.
Plus you could mention his other pieces too, as they are on a smiliar theme, and they're all pretty interesting and unique.
Prod me on msn if you want :)

The Tate has The Lady of Shalott, which is pretty much my favourite painting by my favourite painter. And it's got a cool melodramatic story to go with it.

well, i have sown untidy furrows 'cross my soul,
but I am still a coward,
content to see my garden grow so sweet & full
of someone else's flowers.

As an art history student, may I first of all advise you, don't pick one to write about that you don't like yourself or you'll find it a real task.

Not my usual bag but there are lots of Walter Richard Sickerts at Tate which make for good analysing- there was all that stuff recently about him maybe being Jack The Ripper- he wasn't, but he was really interested in killers and prostitutes etc so there'd be a lot to write about- subdued palettes for sombre subject matter etc.

That art we made in Starbucks earlier was the best piece of art I've seen!

*goes to be unhelpful somewhere else*

^^ I saw a program on that. It was interesting. He made dead bodies very boring though.

...Apparently, I have no favourite pieces of art.
I'll leave now.

Dicky!

Hmm I don't think they were boring Richard, they were supposed to be ambiguous as to whether they were dead or not! Like one where there's a man on the end of a bed and a still female figure- it had one title about a murder that had been in the press, and another title like 'What are we going to do about the rent'- sort of highlighting that, at the time, murders were as real a problem for the underclasses as money was; just another issue to be dealt with in day-to-day life.

I am an art geek.

I personally like The Scream by Edvard Munch, and it can be interpreted in loads of different ways.
Good luck

Just wanted to say, good luck with it! I hate vision analysis >.<

You can't lose hope when it's hopeless.
You gotta hope more,
then put your fingers in your ears and go,
"Blah blah blah blah!"

I miss you Pip ♥
