First Gig, Last Gig, Best Gig, worst Gig and Dream Gig

and most memorable....

Ah okay so im dragging another old thread up so sue me! < is that how you spell sue? Meh who cares.

So basically we are talking music. Something i know nothing about but seem to like. So what were your first, last, best, worst bands/gigs you saw and what would be your dream gig?

First: INXS (1988) At NEC Birmingham.

Last: Cog (2007) Sydney (cant remember the venue name >.<) wiv Erin.

Best: The Hives (2003) Birmingham Academy 2. They arent my favorite band (haha if you know their first album), but for the energy and atmosphere it was just ace!

Worst: Inspiral Carpets (1989) Birmingham Hummingbird. I loved the inspirals, they came one, stood there, played craply, never uttered a word and then ****ed off. We just all stood and looked at eachother and said "that was ****" and proceeded to get totally wasted on stolen beer haha.

Dream Gig: This is really hard as there are so many i wish i could have seen, but i would just have loved to have seen Funkadelic (1970)promoting their first album. Check out those funky muthers!

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJk9ZLjsl3U"]YouTube - Funkadelic - I Got A Thing 1970[/ame]

Most Memorable: Flamming Lips (03/04?) Birmingham Academy. The Polyphonic Spree were supporting and i HATE that band with a passion so i spent the entire time during their set screaming "YOU WANKERS" at The top of my voice. Then the "lips" came on and if you know them you will know that their shows are more like happenings rather than just playing tunes. They are usually accompanied by an array of people dressed in animal costumes etc. On this night one of the badgers suddenly collapsed on stage during "Yoshimi" (i think), and the whole show stopped for 10 minutes. Turns out the poor girl inside had suffered an epileptic fit from all the strobe lighting. I shouldnt laugh but if youve ever seen a giant badger on stage fitting whilst wasted, you aint ever going to forget it. *smirks*

There are more i could mention but it would go on far too long and ive already waffled more than a busy day ina waffle making factory during annual waffle eating month............

~Phoenix~ is my Little Sister of Awesomeness and Self-Delusion :P
Bitter Angel is my Mitten
Animad is my Top Trump
All Im Living For - Is my beautiful and special daughter who isnt called Kim but will moan if i dont add her :P

First: Some bloke that did that song "Havanagalia" or whatever, when I was like 7, with my rents and little sister. If we're talking about the first one you went to like, voluntarily, that'd have to be BUSTED. Their last ever gig. It was awesome and no, I'm still not ashamed!

Last: Cantaloop (www.myspace.com/cantaloopfunk - I think) at the Soul Cellar in Southampton. It was awesome, purely for the fact that it's a small venue (we're talking like, 200 people max) so really intimate.

Best Gig: Air. I was completely blown away, and, as some of you may remember, a little bit excited about it

Worst Gig: Tina Turner. Supported by Lionel Richie. Again with the rents when I was like 8. It was in Dublin (so I got to go to the Guinness Factory, whoop!) but the seats were like, wooden, and so ****ing uncomfortable.

Dream Gig: Well, apart from wanting to see Ninjapenguin strut their stuff () it'd have to be Linkin Park. Purely for the fact I've loved them since I was like 11, and they got me through some really shitty times etc. And, I just love them.

&& then buffy staked edward. the end.

First: I think,it might have been Boyzone. Very possible. Oh YES.

Last: Jimmy Eat World Feb 29th The Guild in Liverpool. Although I suppose my friends band was the last gig I went to,but like, you won't know them. Soo....I'll go with J.E.W

Best: Reading 2005 just in general was fabulous (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Pixies, Incubus). Bloc Party Feb 14th last year in Manchester was FABULOUS. Reel Big Fish (with Streetlight Manifesto) Feb this year in Liverpool was also fabulous. Biffy Clyro. Foo Fighters a couple of years ago. Incubus last October in Manchester. Funeral For A Friend last year too was good. Brand New a couple of years ago. Totally. God. I could go on for a VERY long time.

Worst: The Klaxons. Total waste of my life. ****ing hate them.

Dream Gig: Misfits. I'd ****ing love to have been able to see the original Misfits. Or Led Zeppelin. Or The Who. I actually cried when I was away last summer and my mum said she had tickets but have GIVEN them to someone else. The Kinks. Nirvana. David Bowie. Bob Dylan. All together, one after another I don't care. There's SO many more I could add. But whatever. (edit to add some more) Nina Simone, Otis Reading, Jeff Buckley, The Clash, Aretha Franklin.

First gig- Backstreet Boys at Birmingham NEC. I wasl ike 10 or 11. My mum was more excited than me.

Last- The Enemy at The Ricoh Arena in Coventry. That was a special gig.

Best- I really cannot choose. Billy Bragg was amazing, 2 hours of him and a guitar. Beautiful. Every time I've seen Gossip has been brilliant. One of the best live bands. The Enemy at Birmingham NEC on my 21st birthday was the best present I've been given. Lightspeed Champion, The Subways. I've not really been to a bad gig.

Worst-I've not been to a bad gig, but I've seen some really awful support acts. The main one is Boy Kill Boy. F*ck me. They're alright on CD, but live? Jeeeeeeez...they shouldn't be allowed to play live.

Dream gig- The Smiths when they first started out. Morrissey, Bob Dylan, Cat Power (but I'm seeing her in June), Alicia Keys. Me and my mum both want to see Morrissey and Bob Dylan live before we die lol. If I saw either of them, I could pretty much do without going to a gig ever again. My mum always promised to take me to an Aaliyah concert when I was younger. She was (and always will be) my favourite singer, but sadly she died 7 years ago. She was amazing. And beautiful.

I never post here but it's gig talk =)
First: XS 2003. Festival thing in Worcester. Awful.

Last: Mindless Self Indulgence, last Thursday. Brilliant.

Best: Feeder 2005, NIN 2006, MSI last week, Stereophonics 2005, FFAF 2005, Ash 2007. Thursday 2007. And more.

Worst: XS 2003. It involved Busted, Atomic Kitten and someone called David - won some talent contest.

Dream: There's a few. Joy Division, obviously not happening. Sex Pistol's first gig when there were about 40 people. Again, not happening. I'd LOVE to see The White Stripes. And I'm seeing Flogging Molly in June - dream come true. Also, A Perfect Circle, Dir En Grey and as Ash said, David Bowie and The Who. =)

Most memorable: Thursday. Someone strangled me to get to the front and so I met The Zico Chain. Or 18V cos I got crushed by the bassist. Or Aiden cos I was injured. They're all memorable and I've loved nearly all of them!

edit: dreams would also involve The Blues Brothers and Ray Charles.

Worst: Placebo, Nottingham area 2007. (You might have guessed from the above that I have actually only ever been to one gig. Oh well. it was a good'un.)

Dream Gig: Probably tool because as well as their music, I have heard they put on awesome live sets. Also, possibly Pink Floyd (it'll probably never happen unless Messrs Gilmour and Waters work things out (although they did do Live8 so I can still dream))

I am currently:

First: Dio at London Astoria 1996(?)- totally rocked! (although I had been to several small gigs in pubs etc previously)

Last: Paradise Lost - Nov 05 - I was preggers and my daughter was jumping around inside which made me feel a bit sick but good gig

Best: I feel privileged to have been to some awesome gigs... I dont think I can choose just one.... Paradise Lost are always amazing; Donnington has sometimes been mind-blowingly awesome esp seeing Iron Maiden; I think it was a Chimera/Life of Agony gig when I saw Breed 77 for the first time (supporting) and they just gave me chills.... totally incredible.

Worst:
I was mightily pissed at a NIN gig a few yrs ago when Trent diss all the fans there... calling them (in a serious mean kind of way) dirty pigs and all sorts of stuff... for some reason the crowd just took it but I was annoyed that I was paying him money to be on that stage, to do something he obviously loves and he had no respect for the fact that we as fans were the ones paying his bills etc. I just thought what an a-hole.... ruined the gig for me and I can't listen to their music without thinking about how overly inflated his ego is.... ruined it as I LOVED NIN before.

Most Memorable:
Misfits 1996 at Camden Underworld - at the end of an awesome intimate gig everyone was getting the band to sign stuff (a lot of body parts) and Jerry Only stuck it out to the very end to sign every single person's stuff which I've never ever seen prev or since. All the female fans were after kisses but he was just smiling and shaking his head at them. Then I all innocently (I was 16) asked him to sign my gig flier and he grabbed me lifted me in the air and snogged my face off. I was totally in shock as I was so not after a kiss lol.... but hey it was a GOOD kiss he was just seemed so much older than me.... not to mention all the dirty looks I got from all the other female fans.

It was also memorable as there were several Hells Angels causing trouble during the supporting bands and one guy got seriously hurt but noone got thrown out... hmmph

lmao I just remembered what I was wearing too.... purple velvet flares, New Rocks, and some floaty see thru black top with one of those black bodysuit things that were around then.... pmsl

Last: kate nash. march 10th.

Best Gig: brand new. feb 13th '07. that was pretty cool.

Worst Gig: i'm not suree. stereophonics weren't that good. they were okay, but we had seating tickets and it was in wembley and we were kindof far away, and it was quite expensive and not really worth the money.

Dream Gig: the smiths, i think.
or brand new again would be nice but i'm sure i'll see them when they come back to the uk.

First: I used to get taken to a lot of folk festivals/gigs when I was younger so I'm not too sure what my first gig was. The first gig of my choice was Capdown at a great dingy little venue.

Last: The Metal Hammer Black Crusade tour (Machine Head/Trivium/Arch Enemy/Shadows Fall/Dragonforce). The only band I was bothered about really was Machine Head but they were ace so it was worth it.

Best: Hmm. Best is a hard one to choose. The Cooper Temple Clause was an intense intimate gig, which was ace. Muse put on a really good show. Ack there have been so many good ones. I think I probably enjoyed The Cooper Temple Clause's gig the most.

Worst: Probably the second time I saw [Spunge]. They were really arrogant.

Memorable: Fear Factory, supported by Breed 77 and some other crappy band. It was my best friend's birthday. A crowd surfer landed on my head during Edgecrusher while I was in the pit and I fell into someone else's sick. I almost passed out. Good gig though if you ignore that.

Dream: I would have liked to see Pantera. The Sex Pistols would have been a great experience too. There are too many to list...

First- Terrorvision at Sheffield Octagon
Last- Die Krupps at Sheffield Corporation
Best- ooo thats a tough one... Probably Donnington Monsters of Rock 1996. Ozzy Osbourne and Kiss in full make up with flaming guitars and the lot...
Worst- Would have to be the support band for Aerosmith. ****ing Shed 7. I mean why?? I hate their music and they didnt even put on any kinda show.
Dream Gig- I would have loved to see original line ups of Guns n Roses and Faith No More on the same bill. That would have been sooooo very cool.

first gig= Less than jake at newcatle uni 2001, supported by frenzal rhomb and capdown, also was a close contender for most memorable, everyone and i mean everyone i knew was there, it was the first night i might have been a bit naughty with what i was smoking too.

Last gig = The Wildhearts in dec 2007, really especially when they played geordie in wonderland

Best gig = tough one i've been to what kerrang classed as one of the 100 best gigs of all time (less than jake leeds 2002) but that isnt the best imo i'd have to say it was probably Rancid at Newcastle in 2006 id seen them before but this time i was right down the front and it was a pretty rough pit and the energy was just constant throughout. of course the fact that Tim Armstrong looked amazing and punk as **** in the flesh was good too.

worst gig = cant think of a truly bad gig, Amen at middlesborough in 2004 was pretty bad. terrible support, one of whom ive seen since and they were really good, plus there was no alcohol being served in the venue so i went to a gig completely sober for the only time in my life.

Most memorable = Lars Frederiksen and The Bastards at the garage 2005 good gig in a nicely small venue plus not only did i meet Lars who was lovely and told me he liked my tshirt, but also Dave Courtney was in the pit, although the first i knew about it was after i got pushed and went flying into the back of a bald guy in a suit. i was shitting myself but he just turned round and winked at me.

Dream gig = I would have loved to have seen Blondie back in the day, Debbie Harry is one of my heroes.

on a note about bands ive always wanted to see, i've wanted to see Lit since about 1999 got tickets for the electric ballroom next week

If I pretended I was blind
And struck it from my mind
Would it still be there?
What if I'd do anything
To make it seem all right
I finally got Lei'd in Vets....It was an enjoyable experience!
